Blinkin' heck - those are nice - I am now a shade of green.............
He IS good that Weejun isn't he? I am an amateur compared to him.

Those oldies do look rather crude. I'd have thought in the olden days even low-cost Bass shoos would have been something more than they apparently were. Kind of disappointing.
Here's a NOS pair of 80s Weejuns on Etsy with what appears to be the same box. So I'm not sure one could use the box design to date them.

When I was a kid my grandmother was 'head' of boys' wear (Wow!!) in a large, local and long since defunct depatment store. She told me that the notch cut out of the shoe heel was to prevent it being caught on the touser cuff. This is circa 1972 on. I've no idea if this is definitive but this was her belief at the time.

Jade, man, jaaade.
Fantastic post, Hank, which goes right to the soul (sole) of the forum.
The genius of the Weejun is its middle level of 'refinement' - It's not too rough & ready and it's not too overly refined. My beef with the aesthetics of the Alden LHS has always been that by trying to improve on the vamp of the Weejun by going down the English style loafer route they had lost a lot. 'Overly sophisticated' I think I called it when I first ever offered an opinion on the 'Trad' cult of them back in '06 on Andyland. The soul of Ivy isn't about an 'overly sophisticated' look. If there is such a thing as an 'Ivy Dandy' then he would be an inverted Dandy where the show would be all about a lack of show. Nothing flash or 'sophisticated' at all. Or at least the sophistication would be a covert, subverted one. Certainly there would never be any grandstanding or showboating about him...
Subtlety is ALL it's all about.
Maybe?
