sure, and then there's also that "Brooksian" haircut, as Jim used to call it...

There's no more parting with the Mulligan crop, too...
This and the forward direction is what defines the cut...

Pretty!
Mr. Hank, you are perhaps involve in a proffessional capacity in cutting hair?
No, sorry, sokitumi... Just like a decent haircut.
I guess, I used to be a nuisance to female friends who would cut my hair after checking lots of pictures, but nowadays I just go to a middle aged Italian barber. If I say Ivy, Perry, JFK or College, he knows what I mean...
I was going to say that I thought I remembered seeing a sign saying No Beatle haircuts at a local barber shop when I was a kid. Then I saw that it was from NYC 1964; I was from out on Long Island so I guess I was right and the old Italian barbers woiuld post that sign.
I remember my father taking me ; no haircut was complete until they whipped out the dreaded green glop. They worked it into your hair and then combed it and your hair would be hard as a rock all day.
That reminds me also of reading "Life" magazine ,an article about hair. I believe it was 1963. I found it online once but can't seem to find it now . It was great- all about mens haircuts. They talked about the California surfer look(we called it collegiate) and the greasers. Then it went on to talk about "The Mods And The Rockers" over there.
If anyone can find it I think you'd get into it- really cool stuff.
I found this article. I googled mods and rockers ,surfers and greasers, It's July 30 1965 issue of Life. There's some good ads too.
put the link here... please!
I can't post lincs. You can go to books.google.com and put in the search "Life July30 1965" and see the issue. Remember though this is 1965- 1AB-one yearafter The Beatles, so the article is not about Ivy hairstyles, its about american men growing thier hair out. The coveris the great Mickey Mantle sporting an Ivy haircut and there's a story about an Austrian actor Osker Werner, I think, and some great ads.

I can't help wondering if JD has ever regretted that photograph. I would not want anyone to see me in my orange shirt with penny round collar, my Oxford bags or horrible high street tasselled loafers (age 13).
Yeah, but Jeff, looks cool....
No, let me be fair. I remember when I first saw that photograph in Gorman's book. A kind of mini-me Michael Caine, I thought to myself. Lloyd Johnson, on the other hand, looked good enough to eat. Harpo, you're not serious?
BTW, John Simons looks a bit of a rum bugger in that sheepie.
