The weirdly long-toed shoes put me in mind of my old biochemistry and genetics days -- in some species the male will express non-adaptive (read useless) features to attract the female. In some cases this leads to a bizarre evolutionary cascade resulting in ridiculous displays of these traits at all odds with the normal functioning of the males (think of the peacock's otherwise useless display).

Ugly people should wear ugly shoes on their faces.
What are you talking about?
Have you never seen Ali McBeal?

I usually LOVE exotic skin shoes, but these BLUE Sea Bass cowboy boots went waaaaaaaaay too far.

Actually, they have a sort of Belle Epoque/La Boheme look. I could almost see them with a sky blue or pale blue grey suit; maybe even a mushroom brown suit. I would prefer a different (non cowboy) cut to the boot, something more continental. dDon't know that I would wear them myself but could appreciate them on an entertainer or a lingerie designer.
^ Can I match my pocket square to my ugly puke shoes? Yes I can!

There appears to be some gap in those shoes--definitely drive the ignetry batty.
And while we are on ugly shoes - see these, paired with equally ugly socks:
In fact, the whole outfit is pretty ghastly and unequivocally boring -

I should take your comment as a complement, I think. A few notes are in order:
1) I try to keep my outfits as unequivocally boring as possible.
2) Gunboats are, by their very existence, ugly, clunky, bulky, etc.
3) Moreover, I was having a bit of fun for flag day, hence the ridiculous blue sock/burgundy shoe combo.

You KNOW I love 'boats. The whole point is to be "ugly".

Yes, I often greet my friends with a cheery compliment like "you look pretty ghastly" and "your shoes are ugly"...
I take your point you were just having a bit of fun for flag day, whatever that is, but why not try and look good while you're at it?
My socks were covered by my trousers. Oh, and they're FUCKING GUNBOATS.
I mean, you can put lipstick on a pig and all…

Sublime.
I think the pebble grain makes them more palatable, but I think a better option would have just been double soles without the tank tractor mechanisms.
That combined with the size of the welt just makes it look like someone glued a double monk onto a combat boot sole. I know it's supposed to be a sharp contrast, but ugh.
So who are the braniacs who put trial shoes for custom footwear in that thread, lol?
