Re: Rancourt & Co penny loafers

There was a thread recentlywhere these shoes featured but I can't find it right now.

They are said to be similar in design and quality to the old US made Bass Weejuns.

They're next on my list - true moc construction, unlined, nice casual details, made in usa, great prices, especially for unusual shell colors.  The made some great ivy venetians for Leffort a while back and some other pennies for Rider as well that look great.

Nice, but I keep being tempted by old Dexter stuff.

^^ Rancourt is the cheapest you'll find for the rare colors of shell.

$500 is alot of money, but good quality shoes are worth shelling out for IMO

Not for loafers, I don't think.  I agree with Big Tony: they're a yard shoe.  Paying over the odds for such an animal is all right for the young and affluent.  What's $500 in sterling now?  About £285?  I'll take two more pairs of Weejuns and have the bus fare home, thanks.

No it doesn't. I have been managing to avoid them somehow though, haven't been stung in a long time.

Nice shoes man.  Customs always charge me way more than 20%, but hopefully you'll be lucky on that score.

Rancourts are well made. My preference over Alden. Shell is expensive these days, no doubt. The use Horween though so the leather is well tanned herre in Chicago. The Best USA tanned leathers.

Re: Rancourt & Co penny loafers

I prefer the ones that aren't cordovan.  Much as I think shell cordo looks good on gun boats, to me it's too much for loafers.  The greats of the past (e.g. Weejuns) never used it.

Shell loafers do look great, I will admit, it's just not my personal preference.

Re: Rancourt & Co penny loafers

The man at the PO told me last time i got stung that they now check half of the packages that come from the states. They only used to even look at 1 in 10 or there abouts but they have been asked by their superiors to step it right up. Anything bulky and expensive looking is liable to get checked.

Now more than ever you should ask sellers to pack things in a low key way and (if you can afford to lose it) mark the value of the item way down.

Obviously this is no good for you H or others buying expensive new stuff, but just a heads up.
