Kyle at Rancourt is awesome, I'm sure he'd be willing to help overseas buyers with shipping so that they aren't his with heavy customs. I;mn saving up for my next pair of venetians, but I want a custom job like the ones they were making for Leffot a few years back. Still my favorite 'modern shoes' ever!

There is a way round this, get someone in the states to act as a proxy and send the shoes to you as a gift. It would be very hard to prove otherwise even if the package was stopped.

Have any of you noticed the difference in US sites. LL bean for instance where you can order and pay for an item but have it shipped to a different address. For example a us address, therefore getting free delivery as well as being able to send it to your proxy. However J Press will only deliver to the billing address (the swine’s).

Ok, update re customs charges. My shoes did get stopped by customs but I only have to pay £16.53, not sure why it's so low but my sister seems to think it's something to do with shoes being essential goods and therefore less duty is charged, I don't know if this is true but I shall find out.

Rancourt have great customer service and are very helpful on different leathers, soles and finishes for your chosen shoes, I paid £18ish customs charges on the last pair from them, compared with over £30 on a pair of Bass Weejuns (which cost less than a third of my Rancourts) via Amazon US.

Customs charges seem to be getting more random at the moment, although there appears to be a link to who handles the shipping (USPS priority never gets charged as much as DHL and UPS) on goods of the same value.

^I'm experiencing a similar phenomena lately, some stuff just arrived under the radar, other gear arrives with unfeasibly large import duties.

They look a bit different in the flesh they're a deep brown, they look a bit reddish in these pics, I'm chuffed with them. I'll definitely be getting some pairs in different colours.

I haven't sniffed them but a mate called round and it was the first thing he did when I showed them to him. The cost £226 including a customs charge. They fit true to size I'm a standard UK 11 and I ordered a 12 d US. They are snug without being tight which is good because I presume the leather will give a bit. If I was going to wear them sockless it may have paid to go a half size down and let the stretch with wear but we'll see. I'm going to save my pennies and make another order I think, I'd love some of their venetians.

Beating made in the US Weejuns and Sebagos hands down - but they still don't reach the stylistic heights of the Weejuns of the past.

I dunno, I think you may be romanticising old weejuns a bit. I've seen a few old pairs of weejuns and they're nice but definitely not nicer than Rancourts. May be that you would change your mind if you saw both in person?
