Can anyone recomend some good ones, preferably with a nice slim tapered fit and a fairly high rise. Does JS do them? Or if not, any recomendations for a good tailor who would do the job for around the £100 mark (South east England).
Ahhh, something of a holy grail for the denizens of Talk Ivy. I asked the same question some time ago. Still looking.
I've been on the look out for ages now. I think getting them made is probably my best bet at this point. Crazy really, you'd think somthing so basic would be easy to come by.
Yeah, it seems to be a basic that's fallen out of favour with the generality. There were a few suggestions - I'll have a look.
Cheers H
Henry, I do believe Guy from JS was selling stuff on ebay and a pair of flannels was in there... not sure what it was posted in or if the listings still open but they seem to be round your size.
page 8 for sale section. Guys post. Can't see ebay just now so dont know if auctions still live. Ebay may be down?
It's still there, cheers for that Liam. Seems to be a few bids allready though and there's 6 days left so we'll see, hopefully I'll win them.
Anyone ever try the Lands' End 'tailored fit' ones? I bought some of their cotton flatfronts in tailored fit and they didn't fit very tailored at all.
With decent dress trousers they're usually constructed in a way that they can be pretty much played with to get what you want, fork, seat and tapering can all done. Have you tried phoning either of the BB stores in London H? There is a chap I think his name was John in the suiting dept. and Regent St. Who was really really helpful when I phoned up looking to get some trousers. He'd soon be able to point you in the direction of what you want if you don't win Guy's pair.
May well give that a go. I have a feeling that the trousers Guy's selling are going to go for silly money 6 bids allready and nearly a week left on the auction.
I bought Brookease (made in the USA) for about £7 on Ebay. Wear them with hop sack and Walk Over Oxfords. Square, man, square.
JS grey flannels are £175. I haven't tried them but imagine they're high rise and slim fit.
I got a pair a while back, from an english gentlemans dresser type place, on a recommendation from someone on here, Big Tony, maybe?, and got them tapered and cuffed. They've got a perfect high-rise and tapered leg now. Not absolutely perfect, but the best I'll get from something new (probably - although I'm sure JS' will be good)
I bought a couple of pairs of these (Charcoal & Light Grey) in Brooks sale when I was on holiday in the US earlier this year.

They have a decent rise on them and the quality is acceptable, albeit they're imported. I had them tapered and cuffed by a tailor and I'm very pleased with them.
I got some oxford grey and lighter grey 13 oz flannel by Harrisons of Edinburgh from ebay cheap a few years ago, and had some vintage J Press trousers copied by a local uniform tailor for 80 Euros...
I finally got me a piar yesterday from JS. I'm very pleased with them. I'll post a pic up when I've had them taken up and cuffed.
So, what do you lot wear grey flannels with? I have one pair, which don't seem to go with any tweed jackets I own. Is there life for them outside of pairing them with a blazer?
I'm intending on wearing mine with a dark brown cord 3/2 sack, blue oxford shirt, navy blue silk knit tie and playboys. I'm sure I've seen them paired with tweed on the Tailor caid blog, but I may be mistaken. I suppose what you pair them with depends on the shade of grey.
Nice red crewneck sweater, plain white shirt.
