Re: Flicking the Bean

/\  just found a 30+-year-old L. L. Bean 60/40 stuff sack in navy blue in a closet ... ridiculous ... I'll figure out a use for it .... I know it wasn't mine ....

got to keep it around just for the cool old label, such a label ho .....

also found a gigantic ancient but mint canvas Bean tote bag with maroon handles and bottom, it was filled with old blueprints and architectural drawings, I tossed the plans and kept the tote bag ....

house cleaning yielded a bunch of good Bean gear this summer, bags and blankets from the '70s and '80s .......

Turtle neck duffle is really cool...

A few weeks ago I was down in our family's old cottage bolthole outside Dublin and amongst a bunch of old overcoats that belonged to my late father, I came across an old Bean 60/40  parka in beige.  It's 1980s vintage, I'd guess, most likely a legacy from his years as a visiting professor in New England, in great condition.  The only problem is that it's an XL and I take a large size.  Still tempted to wear it out, it doesn't look too billowing.  An unexpected find either way, and nice one too, for any number of reasons.

That's really about a 50/52" chest, as I recall from meeting you McB it's going to take a few aran isle sweaters to fill it out. If it ever needs a good home I'm happy to oblige!

I'll liberate it the next time I'm down there BB, and if it's not feasible for me (and it's entirely possibly I was indulging in a bit of wishful thinking in terms of fit) I'll be in touch.  It could do with a good home...

Re: Flicking the Bean

Mark McNairy would probably accessorise it with a pair of Adidas Superstars.

The other type of person it would suit is someone that ties dead mooses to the front of their 4x4

That camouflage pattern is sick... Some USMC WW2-inspired stuff right there, very cool... Lots of ideas to be explored about intersections of leisure and postwar veteran identity and how the American sportsman look of LL Bean fit into both...

I've never seen these come up in my size or sold for anything under $100, there's "bean" a pair on Etsy at about $300 for ages.

God, I love this... I love the look of the Bean field watch... I usually wear a cheap Timex Weekender on a mediocre leather strap... Debated for a long time about what watch to wear in uniform and finally picked up a Bertucci watch with a black face on an olive strap from their refurbished section for about $60, it looks very similar to the Bean field watch and I'm very happy with it...

Love that pocket watch fob too...
