Re: Why JFK is a Ivy icon?

All this has been gone over before.  I was responding to the notion that the forum displays no political bias.  I'm sure, if I adopted, say, Milton Friedman as my avatar - or Margaret Thatcher - eggs and tomatoes would be thrown.  Come on, heikki - think of all those women raped by the Red Army.

Tempting - although I don't think my dear friend John would speak to me again!  Maybe I should have Ernie Bevin.

Contrary to lies of FNB and Woofboxer, I (and most of the other "Buff Bastards") have been banned from posting on this forum. There are only a few posters left so don't waste your time on here. This forum is dead and nobody cares.

Re: Why JFK is a Ivy icon?

heikki's certainly not a stalinist, BoB Dylan!

his "style stalinism" is just a very total construct, or not? this is the light hearted age of irony, I'm afraid.

Andy, with his roots in punk, certainly knows that.

If he still goes for that kind of thing...

Re: Why JFK is a Ivy icon?

JFKs favourite reading matter was supposed to have been 'From Russia With Love'.  An excellent choice but scarcely highbrow.  Of course, whilst he was enjoying fellatio from one of his many mistresses, his mind might well have been on weightier tomes.  Spengler, perhaps, or Wittgenstein.  I expect he spent many happy hours analysing Russian literature with Marilyn Monroe, rather than sniffing her knickers.

Ellington should have snubbed him.

Do you reckon he fancied himself as a Bond type character?

Re: Why JFK is a Ivy icon?

He perhaps did a bit, yes.  Mind you, I think Hugh Gaitskell was also a Bond fan.  He'd have been more the 'Q' type.  It's easy to forget just how special 007 was in the 1950s and early 1960s.  I first saw 'Dr. No' in 1965.  The only one I can really stick now is 'OHMSS'.  It has some silly moments but also some very special ones.
