Bob Loblaw is correct.  The state of Israel is a sacred cow, and playing the anti-semitism card whenever the nation is called out for their atrocities just doesn't work anymore.  Neither does the juvenile 'other countries are bad, why haven't they been criticised?' sophistry.  Because, as you stated, they are a first world democracy.  They are held to a higher standard.  Also, they are heavily subsidized by my tax dollars for some nefarious reason.

Israel is trying to expand itself, which is way different than defending a legal border.  We went after Hussein for this in Kuwait.  Israel is the new non-secular Saddam Hussein, a dog we backed in our interests that is biting that hand that feeds it.

It would indeed be strange if only Gaza was classed as political. But it isn't. The BBC has also refused to run appeals for the Tamil Tigers, the Eritreans and the Kurds. I assume that, had you known that, you would have dealt with it. The assumption that it is only Gaza is both lazy and indicative of an agenda. The equation of Israel with Iran is idiotic. Iran is talking about wiping Israel off the map (ditto Hamas and Hizbollah). Israel isn't saying any such thing. You must, surely, know this?

Some film maker says that anti-Semitism isn't an issue and that sorts it for you? Oh goody. I love the freedom you have to decide that what might be anti-Semitism is just busybodies poking their noses in. I just don't understand the qualifications you have to do it. A degree in deciding what persecution is? A God given ability to discern people's inner motives? Anyway, how fortunate you are. The rest of us Jews will just have to rely on the good old standbys of how it feels when you're abused in the street (happened to me twice in the last 7 days) or beaten up (my mate who had surgery on his back this week).

I am not suggesting that this country - or anywhere save possibly Syria and Iran - are on the verge of a Nazi regime. But nor should I have to go that far to make reasonable people have a concern. I am suggesting that the UK has become significantly less tolerant of Jews in the last few years. You can call it whatever you like and attribute it to whatever you like but if you are prepared to countenance it then you aren't a decent person.
