Re: When bespoke wishes and fabric dreams go wrong

I would think that Foo! would be one of the first to write a 600 word headache-inducing polemic against wearing driving gloves when not actually driving a sports car (which would be ever so much fun in those Alden clodhoppers). The only thing more distressing than "old man" Foo! is "super cool dude" Foo!.

Fingerless driving gloves, no less, I can't think of anything more useless. His choice of sunglasses is bad too, very Kim Jong Il.

As for Brooklyn's Beloved, being nice on the interweb wins no points with me but irrespective of my opinion he is no different than most on that point. I suspect some of you wish you had the cajones to dress like him, so you give him a free pass, lol

Re: When bespoke wishes and fabric dreams go wrong

Wearing driving gloves for anything other than driving a sports car screams 'poseur'.   In the context of the pic, gloves are intended to keep his hands warm. Leaving the tips of the fingers exposed (the area most sensitive to cold temperatures) makes no sense.

The concept of a blue tweed like this one has to be the the least versatile and dullest I can think of. Also, I find this particular one ugly, cheap looking and uninspired, and really clashes with those smooth finish grey trousers.

You've all forgotten to mention the 'OneShoe', which looks like a monstrously-oversized blob of double-soled blackness when compared to the length and width of his trousers.

Re: When bespoke wishes and fabric dreams go wrong

Maybe I came a bit late to the forums and missed the heyday (or as FNB and a few here have argued the "imagined" heyday) but I have no like or dislike for this Foo character. I must admit I was a bit surprised when I saw him say he was 28.

To me the above outfit, and I think from what little I remember, most of his stuff, suffers from a confusion of purpose or aims.

From the knees down he looks like a mild bovver boy attempting to dress up - say a minor UK royal listening to Slade. Turnups/cuffs, pants swinging above ankle, clompy shoes.

Then above the waist the nicely kitted out jacket looks as if its a 70's style, nice material, well fitted, nothing wrong with that, with the shoulders de-padded. The notches look as if they almost are creeping over the top of his should to end up on at the back of the jacket.

The pocket square seems to have just landed there in a yellow burst - too loud or not loud enough.

The shades and gloves together look a bit Kray Bros by Hale and Pace to me.

The scarf is just bloody huge and dwarfs everything else.

Living in temperate climes I don't know the proper rules re gloves, coats, scarves but intuitively I'd say the gloves need a over /outer coat of some kind and the scarf needs the same and the scarf needs to be smaller.

Its a case of the whole being less than the sum of the parts. None of the elements would be particularly bad with the right combo and clearly with this dude they are all "quality"

The whole grey look would be better if he truly went monochrome, grey suit - tweedy if you like, grey shirt, grey scarf, grey gloves etc.

Theres something about this combo well dressed bovver boy etc that makes me think he secretly wants to wear a black suit with shades and gloves.

edit:: I know this won't please a few, but this guy has got a good face and head and could carry of a very natty look. I see references around that he's vertically challenged - that also lends itself to general *natty-ness / dapper ness if played right.

*not Natty Dread ness

What's with the pegged trousers? Looks like he's channeling some boy band. One of the stupidest aberrations of the "SF Approved" look. That and the 6" cuffs. I'l also agree with the "Asian Despot" shades- bad if you're not an asian despot.

I'm juuuuuuust over 30 and I have no idea who it is. I like Johnny Foodbag there in the background, he looks like he's saying "Who the fuck is this asshole with the cane and why is he dating some kind of velvet-covered baby?"
