"American Classics" in Covent Garden

...just ran across this store today for the first time. It's on Endell Street, close to JS. Has anybody ever been there? Form what I glanced walking by they stock Red Wing Boots, flannes, Canada Goose down parkas, flannels, jeans etc.

And here's there website: http://www.classicredwingshoes.co.uk

Close to Diane's Diner greasy spoon, Rock & Sole Plaice fish &chip shop, a half-decent pub and a good Italian restaurant. I have never been in the shop though.

There's a good little shop smack bang opposite AC, it's called Interstate. They have a huge range of dry denims, plus American workwear - Dickies, Carhartt et al.

You're guaranteed to find something in there you'll like.

Re: "American Classics" in Covent Garden

I remember lots of trips to American Classics back in the 80's.....back when you could buy good vintage clothing at respectable prices. Those shops (there was a good one in Kensington market too if my memory serves me well, plus one at the Worlds End end (sic) of the Kings Road by Johnson's shop and various other outlets dotted about) Back when we called em second hand clothes.

Is Vintage like Trad, a new name for an old game? I'm sure you've a comment about that Russell?

Buckle-backs at eye-watering prices.  Around £255.

Funny, because I wasn't looking for the shop.  Killing time a bit I wandered down a back alley, turned right and there it was, a cough and a spit from Drury Lane.  It reminded me of 'Nixons', a now defunct shop back home and the first that offered Dockers (now available in CostCo).  Pricier, though, by far.  The shop back home had some lovely rare denim back in the day (circa 1976-79).

I did not mean to suggest it's an 'Ivy' shop.  There was perhaps a little crossover with JS, nothing serious.

Regarding the Pike Brothers sweatshirt, I should not have taken their word that it is German-made.  It is, in fact, made in Turkey.  Not terribly impressed.  Caveat emptor.

I was in Shoreditch yesterday and came across a mens independent clothes shop called Present. It's located at 140 Shoreditch High St. There's plenty of knits, Filson, Penfiled jackets, shirts, etc. It's in a similar vein to Albam, but worth a look if you're in that neck of the woods. They've kept the original old signage outside from The Golden Horn Cigarette Company.

There's also one of those Prufrock coffee counters inside as well. So if you fancy a quick shot while you're in there, you can fill your boots. Although at £2.30 for an espresso, I passed on the opportunity..

Hunky Dory Vintage, Brick Lane, is nearby - Just across from the Beigel Bake - The other London stockist of my 'Smoking Cat Vintage' range, apart from JS.
No Smoking Cat currently in stock (my fault), but some great vintage scarves. It's run by my 'Uncle' Ians - Two of the nicest people in the world.

Re: "American Classics" in Covent Garden

Picked up a madras hartford jacket in Present - it's pretty local to me as is Hunky Dory, and of course the ever entertaining Blackmans shoes.

Anyway, I am off all next week, so i'll be checking this out if anyone fancies joining me. http://www.hisknibs.com/2012/11/present-sample-sale-in-london-up-to-90-per-cent-off.html

Re: "American Classics" in Covent Garden

As we're in Covent Garden, it's always worth a look in Rokit. They seem to know their 'onions' on denim and vintage sportswear (always priced 'correctly' so no bargains) but seemingly don't have a clue about much outside that, Pendleton Topsters and Topsman ( shorthand - '49ers') are always mis-labelled as CPO jackets and around £20 and anything that looks like a Harrington thats not a Barrcuta gets racked up at £15-20 (got a couple of London Fog jackets in amazing condition, one lined and another unlined for £12 each).
