Flicking the Bean

I was watching "American Dad" on television last night, which if you don't know, is a mildly amusing American cartoon series in the "Family Guy" mould. It features as a character a sort of multi-sexual, louche alien, which lives with the family (yeah, I don't know why either). Anyway, the father character asks the alien what it's up to. "Just licking my finger and flicking the bean." it replies...... before holding up an L.L. Bean catalogue and proceeding to flick through it.

This made me laugh, because I am peurile and it involved the L.L. Bean catalogue, which I have been known to flick through also.

Henceforth, looking through the L.L.Bean catalogue will be known as "Flicking the Bean", and I would ask that forum members, when referring to an item they have seen in the catalogue, preface this with "I was flicking the Bean the other day....."

It would amuse me.

Sometimes I feel like I'm 13 on here and then Gibson Gardens comes on and the partys over. Kinda like the father in Dead Poets Society.

He's always been a somewhat Godlike presence, frowning in a paternal way over his erring, errant flock.  He actually wants to be President of England, so he can order us all to change from broadcloth to pinpoint a dozen times a day.  He doesn't like the Queen, you see.  He's a republican.  But not a Republican.  Gets kind of confusing after a while.

Nowadays, of course, you could just Google the word 'clitoris'.  It was more a question of trial and error circa 1972, I don't mind telling you.

Best of the current Bean ?

I've always rated them over Landsend (Although the 1990 LE Hyde Park OCBD remains 'in my rotation'...).

Re: Flicking the Bean

Funny you should say about the landsend 1990 shirt. I've got a poplin one that i think is from a similar period. Made in the US, 7 button placket, and a roll that has me sold. Infact it's one of the ones i'm taking along as to show the shirt maker. Is there anything in particular design wise you like about yours jim?

And, most appropriately, Heavy Tweed Jacket just put up a post on LL's 1985 Christmas catalog. Where's that time machine when you need it?
