'The Syllabus' says everything I could possibly say, only 101 per cent better.

Agree. I'd love to be able to write such a great blog. So many here do such great things elsewhere. The Weejun, Johns Syllabus, Oo Bops tumblr, Zachs blog is great and Jims tumblr seems to have gotten off to a great start.

I especially like Patricks blog. His movie reviews and fishing stories are always worth a read.

Regarding Hubert: for me, there's just a touch too much going on there.  Each item is great in its own right - that jacket! - but together...  mm...

Anything on that hip little pixie is welcome, John!

Fair's fair - It's Mr. Drink's tumblr with source material from me so far. In the same way that I no longer write RS  see no reason why the Smoking Cat brand shouldn't be spread by those more talented than me.

Mr. Swaine wears my old Walkover Saddle Bucks - Check him in Woofboxer's pics of the first night of Hollywood and The Ivy Look at John Simons in them. He wears them well.

Absolutely. Forgot to mention Paul but it hadn't slipped my mind that he was writing it. It seems I automatically link Smoking Cat with you Jim as I do Russell Street. That's branding for you. Powerful stuff.

Re: John Gall's 'The Syllabus'

Pleasingly, John knows that food, drink and attitudes towards eating and drinking are integral to a nations cultural outlook.  I expect his shelves - like mine - contain those wonderful old Penguin paperbacks - now becoming harder to find - by Elizabeth David, Jane Grigson et al. (not - decidely not - Lawson, Oliver and their kind).  Why don't the English do food well, on the whole?  Why this long-running abuse of alcohol?  Why is there - generally speaking - an aversion to men eating, rather than soaking, together?

Men can share anything they want to, if they want to.  Exactly like women.  What the fuck are you all doing crowding round Jimmy's ego when you could be reading, absorbing, commenting here?

The jury is still out on if two blokes can share an umbrella.

Can't you just thrash this out with me & then drop it?

I like you & Gally. What is it that are you after here ?

Go and start your own rival forum or blog if you want one...

And I'll support you.

Re: John Gall's 'The Syllabus'

You really shouldn't be getting upset about a throw away comment like that.. And as for the stroking of egos, i'm the biggest stroker on here. I'll stroke anyones, anytime. And i have done yours regulary. Apparently, and i didn't know this, if you by a women dinner, it means sex. In fact and this is true there is some primate i've forgotten which who commence the mating ritual by offering the female some meat from a kill. Incredible. Are we really any different? Well maybe not in this country it seems.

You've never met me. Ask Gally - I'm a mouse.

But grant me that I've made things happen online in my own small way.

I ought to ring you. Everybody always feels better after swearing in my face.

It's no biggie to me.

Re: John Gall's 'The Syllabus'

The impression i get from you andy is the grass is greener mentality, america as it was over england. Italian grace over booze soaked brits. And yes i can see why, and to a point agree. But i wouldn't let that romance spur me on into raging at people cause they don't share a view. There are always going to be higher levels of taste and quality. But i really don't want to turn into the Frasier Crane of the home counties. I'm happy with the clothes as a piece of design, it's not escapism into a better world. it's cloth hanging on someone for me. I know my place in the world i'm not trying to pretend or wishing to be anything different.

Who said men can't share dinner? I quite often go out for a meal with my best mate, don't see anything odd about it myself.
