Re: The Ivy Inanity Thread !!!

As Minet became more 'Pop-y' their colour sense changed a lot. They started with two main factions: Really traditional Anglo & Ivy. Those two elements together were later submerged in a very French sensibility of pushing the limits, creating something new & moving their Anglo or Ivy Modernist look of '62 on to a more Mod look in'65 (when the 'Minet' name was first invented by the media).

The French look in Minet was always a minority look when compared to the English or, even rarer and far more valued, American imports until '65 when the scene went overground. Then the look was far more French.

'65 in Paris was like the Modernist / Mod tipping point in London in '63.

Lloyd Johnson tells stories of taking the ferry to France, driving to Paris and filling his van up with New Man cords to sell in Kensington Market 1967ish.

Re: The Ivy Inanity Thread !!!

Pretty much with Minet you get a real pecking order with the Faces in imported Ivy or Anglo and the rest in homegrown. Each faction looked down on the other.

Chris - Lloyd, as you know, would know. Good stuff.

I assumed the above was a bit of a leg-pull.  It's a pity you have to take money from these people.  The poor are almost always kinder.  When I was hungry (many years ago) it was often those who had nothing for themselves who were most willing to share.  I've never forgotten that.

Re: The Ivy Inanity Thread !!!

Thanks for this, both. I remember a pic on the forum that showed an Ivy sack shaped through the sides. It looked weird. Quite easy to get wrong, I suppose.

(I thought waists went low, natural, high! Like first, second and third gears. Oh dear. Living and learning. Well, I don't know if medium is a proper term, but I meant that! Lower than high and higher than low. (Most of my trousers are highish to high, I'd currently say. I prefer that but I like medium, perhaps for want of a better term, and low too. I have one or two I'd perhaps currently term medium, and one low. smile))
