Upon "The Professional Blogger" -

Comment by Yankee-Whisky-Papa — February 23, 2012 @ 11:54 am

What are amateur clothing blogs? Blogs that don’t accept advertising?

Comment by Christian — February 23, 2012 @ 4:11 pm

Correct. Blogs that don’t generate revenue, that employ a username rather than the blogger’s real name, and which aren’t an extension of the blogger’s career in a related field, such as media.

So be a" Professional Blogger" !

You too could have no home, no car, no posessions... You too could live alone as a favour in a mate's spare room in Queens at the age of 43...  (Actually, if Horace is up for it, I'd love that last one, never mind that I'm pushing 47...)

Tempted, anyone ?

Blogging is a 'Profession' with much to offer. Depending on what you want...

Re: Upon "The Professional Blogger" -

... But all of this is just foolish froth - ACL is THE Professional Blogger. Because it's not his profession. And he makes a nice living.

- I also really rate the proudly amateur bloggers - The hobbyists with passion.

... But the pretend 'Professional' ?

Nah.

What do you all think ?

Best -

Jim.

Bravo to the amateurs who really care about their topics and put effort in, even though many of them are sell-outs or desperately want to be. Looking back, it's beyond me how anyone imagined in the early days they could ever make living money via a blog or personal rant webpage, but I guess hindsight is 20/20. Soon the whole internet will be pay-as-you-go on a level we're not used to now, and then the small timers who provide the most interesting content will vanish and users will slowly disappear and the internet will become nothing more than a giant Yellow Pages.

Re: Upon "The Professional Blogger" -

Not my blog BIG Tony. The big players in my town are going to hate my guts because l am going to tell the honest truth about their shoos, the only person l will protect alittle is the last maker, only because he is a nice bloke and the last left in the industry and needs to be supported. lf people offer me money to put up advertisements on my site, l will in no uncertain terms tell them to F*CK OFF because l HATE advertisements....loathe them more than almost anything else on Earth because it goes against everything l believe in. l haven't seen a t.v ad in over 20 years, l have rarely seen a youtube or photobucket add (l turn down the volume and look away because you never know what subliminal messages are being sent through electronic media these days), and l turn down the radio whenever there is an ad (subliminal messages). l have only been open to print advertisements because l have more control over what l view, but l still need to be careful of hidden symbolism.

p.s: it won't be all doom and gloom on my site, it will be a properly balanced review of the shoos. lt will be a positive site, but it won't pretend for something to be what it is not.

I think Big Tony is right, the internet will end up so saturated, so totally fucked-up to the brim of unreliable ego vision questers lusting for fame and fortune that no one will use it for anything other than viewing porn or purchasing from Brooks Brothers. We should welcome this and get back to face-to-face communication and digging music on vinyl.

I would consider it a matter of honour that Chensvold backs his claim of professional status, with actual evidence of business revenue from this portion of his media empire.

Or maybe even just behaved like a professional ?

He's very easily sucked into invented squabbles by trolls...  wink

Let's face it: He's an amateur with a few ads on his blog. He lives from hand to mouth.

He's Poor White iTrash when compared to the real professionals &, my faves, the inspired hobbyists.

Re: Upon "The Professional Blogger" -

I think that this use of the word "professional" reveals an interesting deficiency of language. "Professional" carries with it a connotation of expertise, rigorously ethical behavior, and competence. Chenners (and his UK doppleganger Cromps) demonstrate few of these qualities. They are certainly paid but there's very little professional about Chensvold's boring clothing fanfiction or Crompton's totally unchecked avarice and boiled-milk prose. The only clothes blog that I actually like is The Weejun, which keeps things very short. ACL seems to me to be an especially well produced and skillful kind of hipster narcissism, the less said about A Suitable Wardrobe the better, and then there's Muffy, about whom I will say nothing because I still think fxh has a shot with her if we don't mess things up.

Now all I've got to do, is figure a way of blending all of that into my Linkedin profile.

I meant big business and big government will start to increase the costs for every aspect of being on the web, which will drive out those who can't pay, i.e. the small timers who actually create content and have something worthwhile to say or talk about. But your point is even better. It reminds me of a book I read by a man who was a social butterfly in London in the 60s and 70s and said when drugs arrived everyone would just slump in a corner at parties doing drugs and drifting in their own world, whereas prior to, when alcohol was the only drug, everyone would get pissed, get friend, have sex, etc etc. Time to get back to real interactions between people. Even jacking off to internet porn has more social value than reading or writing clothing blogs, or wristwatch blogs, or whatever.

The new definition of professional leaked into everyday language from the sports world, in which calling a player a "professional" means nothing more than they get paid a salary - expertise, ethical behaviour, and competance are only required on the part of players' agents. I too shall not comment on Muffy, except to say that as far as I can tell she devoid of sex appeal or sexuality, i.e. the perfect trad wife.

Gil. I must thank you for your sensitivity and consideration, perhaps even professionalism, in the matter of my Muffy fetish.

I must say I have struggled with the demons and had, to a large extent, given up. However your kind words have rekindled my hopes of success. I note the form of your words seems to indicate active assistant from yourself, and even others. I do worry however that assistance from Big Tony may be more crude than I would wish.

Might I ask if Muffy has in fact been in touch with you through back channels and if she has, has she mentioned me?

If Muffy were willing to be contacted through her back channel, then I might change my mind about her.

Phew, I thought you might have linked FNB to the infamous photo of Muffy in her pyjamas. I've just got through extensive post-dramatic stress disorder therapy to erase that wholesome image of New England gentile womanhood from my mind.

Re: Upon "The Professional Blogger" -

Blogs, just like government, are a reflection of the people who live in our society. We reap what we are. People say the blog hogs are money influenced, but aren't most people in modern societies influenced by the exact same things. That's why l say it really is a reflexion on who we are ourselves.

Feeling very philosophical today.

FXH - do you spend your evenings wanking to that photo? muffy in her pjs and scrawny man-feet, no muff showing? too many interior decorating and needlework books on the wall? rug that was last cleaned in 1983? wooden furniture pressed up against baseboard heaters?
