I really like the way the stuff is dressed at TILS, still waiting for something I like to come along in my size. Great shop though!

I really like how the clothes are presented... VERY nice! I know now how I can combine my beloved velvet blazers in an Ivy League context - something I didn't really think of until now... smile

Unfortunately most of the stuff isn't my size except the Viyella Tattersall - uh, nice. But I don't want to buy AGAIN shirts - at least at the moment wink

I venture to suggest you are pushing it a bit with the price for that Chipp jacket. And your mark-up on that item exactly is.....?

It's a speculative price, sure. But considering she has sold several more recent Chipp Jackets for 200, 250 for a bleeding madras seems like a reasonable increase. Her margins are her business. If she bought it for 249.99 and listed it for 250 would that make the price more amenable to potential buyers?

Darcy has an excellent shop. She knows her stuff and presents it very well. Her customer service is great. I paid her 85 bucks for a Sero madras popover and the thing is my favorite madras (and I have A LOT of madras).

This jacket could be 300+ in NYC, San Francisco, LA. And how many of these jackets surface nowadays in great condition?

Ditto with Typhoid Jones $199 Brooks popover, about which he was recently chewed out on the trad forum. That thing is INCREDIBLE. Is 199 a high price, maybe. But consider that a j.crew shirt costs $80, a new Gant 125, and none of those are literally the shirt that Brooks was selling when Miles wore Brooks.

The two Chipp jackets are superb, the cloth looks great on the Hacking and wash and wear, good job I didn't come across them last night, as I have already spent my pocket money this month.

Re: The Ivy League Shop @ Etsy -- NEW STUFF

I continue to be amazed by the truly great things that people can turn up on any given day.  I was busted on the AAAC Trad Forum about trying to sell "a used OCBD for $199."  It was almost like the poster didn't even look at the item description - I doubt the popover was ever worn and I'm CERTAIN that it was never washed.  I don't know people who were alive when that shirt was on the rack in Brooks Brothers that look as good, lol.

Either way, it really comes down to either knowing or not knowing what you're looking at when it is presented to you.  I bought a 1950s Brooks Brothers charcoal suit in my exact size for $100 from Giuseppe of AAW at the last TSF out in Somerville.  I kind of hesitated about it for a second because I know where he probably got it from and how much he probably paid for it, but then I asked myself: "What is this worth to me?"  Needless to say, I now own a 1950s Brooks Brothers sack suit in my exact size with zero regrets.  I would have regretted not buying it.

And thanks Zach.

Re: The Ivy League Shop @ Etsy -- NEW STUFF

I think the issue has just about been resolved. The way I look at it really is that most of these agreements are worth more than what people sell them for for the following reasons. If you go buy a brand new Brooks Brothers suit you could expect to spend $998 for an off the rack garment, if it is not on sale, and if you buy a BB sports coat they start around $398-698, if you go custom or Golden Fleece the price goes up. A new BB OCBD costs about $79. When you buy a nice vintage garment you are going to still get a lot of life out of it and sometimes you are buying the item for 1/8 in the case of some suits or jackets and sometimes less that 1/2 for shirts. So what are buyers really losing? So you are not paying the price for a new garment, but you are getting a garment of equal and sometimes better quality since construction at BB has been in decline over the last few years, and you are saving yourself a bundle of money.

I myself have experienced this, I own a gray glen plaid Golden Fleece three piece suit that I picked up for around $100. I wore it to a meeting with an executive at a large investment firm and he admired it many times throughout the conversation. So not only does it fit me well, but I know other people appreciate it and compliment me for its cut and construction. For me, that is worth $100. I consider I got it at a reasonable price for that amount.

Remember, it can take a seller quite a bit of time to source these items, process them, and find buyers for them. They take all the risk of buying a garment that may not sell.

Re: The Ivy League Shop @ Etsy -- NEW STUFF

An easy way to see if the price is too high: does it sell?  Simple as.

I wish that Chipp madras had been a 39R; finding myself a 50s/60s tweed sack has been hard enough, but 50s/60s madras, in my size?  It's going to take a lot of searching.
