Is it possible the clownish outfits are due to small-man syndrome? He's even standing on tip-toes in this photo:![]()

I would think a small man would compensate with very quiet clothes, navy or dark grey solid suit, white or blue shirt and one of them Marinella ties.

...and Alden longwings in black shell cordovan!
Joking aside, the Templeton guy is interesting not because of his clothing (which I think is laughable) but because it raises the question of how zany can you engineer your personal style before it goes over the peak and down the far slope?

It's an illustration of time/place/manner too. When you see him, or when I saw him, I thought tacky. But to the people around him, he is perhaps unique.
Someone mentioned Bill Maher earlier, who in this photo is looking good but usually seems to wear dark suits, dark shirts, etc, from the John Cusack school of style...![]()

He wears different things on his show than elsewhere, possibly because of monitor distortion concerns. I say this because i noticed he never wears striped suits but I saw on the cover of his new book, he is wearing a distinct chalk stripe. He is a small man and wears a narrow lapel suit with a narrow tie. Usually the tie matches the suit background which is very 'Merican and he he is a fshion plate considering what he would look like if he werent groomed or tailored.
