I didn't know about this work, although I knew he was a commercial artist so I get the impression when you said about him not joining the leather waistcoat brigade in the late 60's, was maybe because he always wanted the glamour of the 50's? Who knows.

A lot of the album covers had elements he had traced from old ads in periodicals he had loaned from the New York library, to avoid any litigation for breach of copyright, he kept a lot of magazines he got from the library and ran up hefty fines.
David Stone Martin is my favourite album cover artist from the period, had a close relationship with Norman Grantz and did all the JATP covers:
