Just some paintings I thought some of you may like, or already know of, from Fairfield Porter.

Cool stuff Rob, loving the last one. Quite a charming style really.

Too high above the waist was the badge of the hopeless nerd/engineering student.  High waters were also not cool, the right length is the right length and you either grasp it, have the eye, or you don't.

Bit like Hockney's when he went West.

Re: Fairfield Porter

Fairfield must have been a big influence on him, idyllic stuff really.

Re: Fairfield Porter

Cheers, never heard of him. From what I see, he must have  been a realist painter in the middle of the abstract movement. I wonder if there is an sort of "message" or meaning. At first I thought it was some sort of Rockwell for the privileged, but it obviously it is not that easy. His style really has something, I guess that is what gives the paintings that plus compared to mere  portraits. Thanks for showing, wil google him a bit.

Re: Fairfield Porter

I was surprised there hasn't been a mention of him here, or on Ivy Style, I thought this'd be right up Chens' street. I only tripped over it, because whilst I was searching Warhol covers, this painting came up, which is a portrait of him and a friend by Fairfield.

I guess he is not well-known enough, wasn't  as famous as other American artists in his time and died in '75. That will have kept him below the radar of most. Let's see if he turns up elsewhere. wink

This is indeed rather splendid, its the cars at the bottom that gives this painting an edge.
