Let's cut the crap, and get down to business.

I was looking through Etsy this morning and I found various jackets by what I'm guessing are East Coast men's outfitters, I notice when Andy lists his stuff I see these similar names come up.

Could those in the know, Andy, Jim, Chris H, anyone else  give us youngsters a definitive guide to the Men's outfitters that sold the Ivy style as their handwriting.

Thanks.

No need to get that deep is there? If it's made in the USA, tick. If its natural shoulder, tick. If its a 3/2 roll, tick. If you like it, its on, isn't it?

Come, let us slake our mandrakes together !

A users guide would be nice.

In all honesty the names are endless -

For me, The Crimson Shop was my 'one that got away' - I left the place with two Sero made buttondowns (A Madras & a Poplin Tatterall) and a week's worth of watchstraps.

In the window was a slouchy, Sandy, Sack jacket which has haunted me to this day....     Made by?

My chance was there, but I rushed off to lunch.  The shop had closed forever when I next tried to check it out.

I'd love to see a comprehensive book on all of them... I think it'd be well worth the effort.

I found this today, not my size, but when I search for the obvious, something like this always crops up. Same for a lot of obscure US outdoors companies.

So this morning I found this John Alexander Brown jacket, and after a quick search this is what I found.

A really good blog called, 'The Department Store Museum'

''The on-line museum of North America's independent department stores. The museum holds all sorts of information about classic department stores which either no longer exist, or are changed beyond recognition. A few of them are still with us, and provide an interesting connection to North America's retail past. The others are presented so that they may be properly remembered as a tangible part of the lives of their customers, shopping destinations where memories were often made.''

Great link Oo Bop. Very useful for pinning down those obscure labels. Just like today, much of the stuff was made by generic manufacturers and the stores labels added afterwards. I have a great overcoat made for 'The Higby Store' - look it up!

I stumbled onto "The Department Store Museum" when I was doing research for something I was writing up for my Etsy shop.  That is a really interesting site.  If you have the time and inclination, you should check out the blurb on RH Stearns from Boston.  It was surprising because I used to walk past that building every day and had no idea it was an 11 or 12 story department store dating from 1849 (even though that particular building had only been around since 1909 or so).

Is anyone here from Cleveland, Ohio who could tell me something about Oscar A Bergmans Dept Store on Shaker Square? When did it close? Anything really....
