Dim sims thrown before horror road rage smash
A COUPLE critically injured in a high-speed crash pelted dim sims at another car moments before flipping their four-wheel drive multiple times on the Geelong bypass, police allege.
The driver and the passenger of a Mitsubishi Pajero could face charges of endangering their children after an alleged road-rage incident in which police claim food was thrown at a white Ford on Good Friday.
Detective Acting Sergeant Daryll Out of the Major Collisions Investigation Unit said the 27-year-old mother and 26-year-old man, who remain in intensive care in hospital, would be interviewed.
"Witnesses saw food being thrown from the Pajero at a white car moments prior to the altercation," he said.
"We haven't positively established what other food was thrown but it was found near the scene of the crash."
Det Acting Sgt Out said the pair may face charges because their children an 11-month-old girl and two-year-old boy were allegedly not properly secured.
He said it was fortunate all four were not killed when the Pajero rolled at high speed.
The couple are likely to face charges of endangering the lives of road users, including their own children.
It is believed a family of four in the other car, a white Ford, were left shaken by a tirade of abuse and food allegedly thrown at them, and that one of the children, who has a medical condition, was traumatised.
Police are investigating two incidents between the cars' occupants.
They have contacted the driver of the Ford, who did not stop at the crash scene, and were expected to interview the family last night.
It is believed the couple in the Pajero bought fast food at a service station shortly before the crash. Police will interview staff at the service station.
Witnesses claimed food was thrown from the Pajero at the Ford.
The alleged road rage began on the Princes Highway at the start of the Geelong Ring Road and continued for kilometres before the Pajero swerved and flipped near Ballarat Rd at Hamlyn Heights.

Here's an interesting story about a Toronto constable who was stabbed in the neck, shot his assailant, and was still thinking straight enough to get a homeowner (coincidently a firefighter) to secure his sidearm. Good job, and it makes me glad to know that some police are 'on the job' since some of them do some spectacularly stupid things. Inconsistency is a natural human trait, I guess.

Toronto police officer stabbed during traffic stop
Investigators are trying to piece together exactly what happened late Sunday night when a routine traffic stop ended with a Toronto police officer stabbed in the neck and a male driver shot. According to the province's Special Investigations Unit, the officer "stopped a motor vehicle for a traffic stop in the area of Northmount Avenue and Delhi Avenue," near Bathurst Street and Highway 401. What happened after that is not clear.
According to Toronto police Chief Bill Blair the officer was "alone at the time" of the incident. Blair told CBC News the officer — Const. Jeff Blair, a 12-year veteran of the force with two children — suffered a "very serious injury which could've been a lot worse." Blair, who is no relation to the police chief, underwent emergency surgery at Sunnybrook hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. The chief said the wounded officer is "going to be OK" and released a YouTube video to update the public.
Toronto Mayor Rob Ford issued a statement Monday, saying that "it is important to remember the sacrifice Toronto's police officers provide to ensure our well-being." The mayor wished the injured constable "a full and fast recovery."
The man who was shot also is undergoing treatment at Sunnybrook. Police will only say he is 38 years old and is in critical condition.
The SIU is now investigating. It has assigned six officers to the case.
For the wounded officer, the location of the incident was fortuitous — right outside the home of Mike Salb, a 22-year veteran of the Toronto Fire Department. Salb, 52, was getting ready for bed when he heard a noise outside. "There was a commotion outside the house. I heard the officer say, 'Stop. Police.' Five shots rang out. I went to the window to have a look out. I saw the officer raise his gun, fire two more times, and then I ran out." Salb said he put on a jacket with Toronto Fire Department insignias on it "so that when police arrived they'd know I was [with the fire department.] "I told the officer I was a firefighter, he asked me to secure his gun, which I then took into my house, I grabbed a flashlight and some paper towels, I then came back out to render first aid to the officer," Salb told CBC News.
Within a few minutes Salb said, "police were coming from everywhere. They secured the victim and then the ambulance arrived and the officer was stabilized and then transported to hospital." The man who was shot was "face down against the curb. He wasn't moving very much. He did move a little bit — but he wasn't threatening in any way," Salb recalled.

Chainsaw and samurai sword used in neighbours' clash over loud music Nick Ralston May 2, 2012
A neighbourhood dispute over loud music and erratic driving has escalated into a bloody brawl in which a chainsaw partially severed a man's arm.
Doctors are attempting to reattach the arm of Mark Jorgensen, 29, after the altercation in in Fenton Close, Minto, last night.
Another man, Troy Thornton, 26, lost a finger in the dispute. His sister, Nicole Thornton, claimed he was attacked with a samurai sword.
Mr Thornton, a father of two, lives in Queensland but was in Sydney to attend the funeral of his sister's partner, Peter Reinhardt, who drowned when his boat overturned on the Nepean River in March.
As Ms Thornton kept a waterside vigil with her newborn baby, the couple's Londonderry home was robbed. Thieves took jewellery, cash and a gun.
The Thorntons' mother, Wendy Halls, said it had been a traumatic few months for the family.
The problems began just after 5.30pm yesterday when the Jorgensen household complained about Ms Halls playing loud music.
The Thorntons claim that someone from the Jorgensen household then drove in a dangerous and threatening manner towards them.
Police were called and the two families were told to return to their homes.
But tensions escalated again just before 9.20pm, resulting in the chainsaw being produced.
Ms Thornton claimed members of the Jorgensen household tried to invade their family's home.
"Basically we ended up all in a brawl," she said. "The guys from next door. By then there was 20 of them with bats, swords and poles.
"It was me, my mum and my sister taking on guys, so my brother has gone and got the chainsaw."
Ms Thornton said her brother was attacked with the sword before he got involved in a wrestle with the chainsaw. She denied he went after anyone with it.

Meanwhile, in the New York metropolitan area:
She's taken tanning too far - even for New Jersey.
Tanorexic mom of five Patricia Krentcil - whose ghastly boot-leather skin makes Snooki look like a ghost - was busted for allegedly taking her 5-year-old daughter into a stand-up tanning booth.
Krentcil let little kindergartner Anna get so roasted at her local salon that school officials noticed a sunburn on the child and called the authorities. The mom was hauled into a Newark court yesterday on charges of felony child endangerment — although she insisted she didn’t bring Anna inside the booth for a little “Jersey Shore”-style tanning action.
“Never in my life would I endanger my child by putting her in a tanning booth. I’m not dumb,” Krentcil, 44, of Nutley, said yesterday, after pleading not guilty to charges that could get her 10 years in prison. She was freed on $25,000 bail and retains custody of her kid.
Officials said that a school nurse noticed the first-degree sunburns on Anna on April 24. That’s when the girl blabbed that her mom had brought her to the salon.
Krentcil, however, claims that Anna, who has fair skin and red hair, got the sunburn while playing outside.
She says Anna was confused when she told school officials about the salon.
The girl was just accompanying Krentcil, she says, claiming the school is blowing it out of proportion.
“It’s all made up,” she said.
Krentcil is such a tanatic that she visits the City Tropic Tanning salon on Centre Street in Nutley roughly 20 times a month, workers there told The Post.
She has a $99 monthly pass — and has used that plan to char herself to a ghastly mahogany tint for the past three years.
“She’s totally innocent. Whatever they say happened didn’t happen,” Krentcil’s hubby, Rich, told The Post.
He then went on to deny she had severe tanorexia.
“She likes to tan, but I wouldn’t say she has a problem,” he said.
“She is tan. She enjoys doing it for herself and she enjoys tanning. It’s her business, pretty much. It’s not illegal to tan. People drink and smoke, and it’s not illegal.”
Even so, Krentcil will have to find a new enabler — the salon owner yesterday banned her for life.
“I don’t want her here anymore and deal with this nonsense,” said the owner, who would give his name only as Anthony.
Nevertheless, he backed her defense.
“The girl did not go in the booth,” Anthony said.
“The girl had sunburn on her arms from April 17; it was 90 degrees out.
“She’s a 5-year-old kid, she’d burn to death if she went into one of those booths. I have seven kids of my own. I wouldn’t let a girl in there.”
He also said that images of Krentcil appearing on television with a gruesome tan were probably due to spray tan — not from his tanning beds.
“The way she looks now, it’s not from here, she added some kind of spray to her face,” he said.
Krentcil was quickly becoming a laughingstock.
“As crazy as she looks, you think she would put her daughter in the booth — to take time away from herself?” joked John D., who was picking his high-school age daughter up from the salon.
