Re: Groovin' at the I Spot -

Melbourne jazz festival week or two is coming up. I'll be off to see Dr. Lonnie Smith and the B3.

Anyone have some recommendations based on the lineup?

To do: insert constantly changing witty, knowing and slightly ironic literary quote or reference.

Superb. I've always loved that tune. Both songs compliment each...

That's a nice way to say "stole".

I had never heard either one of those versions of "Sitting in the Park". I just meant that The Rascals seemed to have Borrowed from the Georgie fame version consiously or unconsiously.

Ah, I see. Probably the former. Lummy! I'd never heard the similarity between the two songs until now...or are you some kind of  a Machieavellian spin doctor...? ;-)

Never heard most of the stuff you're playing Lee. I'm getting a little of this kind of vibe from that Billy Nichols song.  Spanky and Our gang were a kind of folk rock hippie group but maybe there was some trans Atlantic cross pollination going on with the British Mods in the mid 60s.  http://youtu.be/0zx4i_cNJmU

I really like both of those bands. I have a yen for what is known as 'Sunshine Pop'. Bands such as  Spanky and Our Gang,The Association,The Millenium,Harper's Bizarre, Eternity's Children etc. sound like a hybrid of The Beach Boys and The Mamas and Papas . All wonderful stuff. Play this kind of music and any aches and pains brought on by the (traditionally damp) British climate are immediately irradicated. ;-)

Best not to admit to that too loud round here.
