Looks Preppy to me. Maybe not 'Preppie' in the truest sense which can be alright but yeah, just this seasons version of Prep style, I guess.

Awful obviously but I don't think it's misrepresenting anything.

I'd also say that being American has nothing to do with anything here. Maybe they are clueless? I dunno. They seem to have nailed that look in all its garish awfulness anyway. That shows perhaps some kind of a clue. Whether it's a clue worth having is another matter.

I like to think of it the way some others on here do. These kids will go on and do as they do. Some will stick with the look some won't. Some will dig back and find the roots and fall in love with The Look as we know it. It takes all sorts. That being said I don't really give two hoots what these kids do... they matter not a jot to me. Also they are just models modelling a bunch of Preppy fashion fodder.

What about the image says 'clueless Americans'? That's what gets me.

Clothes for sure say a lot about people, I don't know if those clothes are saying those kids are clueless. To me their clothes are saying their stable kids who take an interest in how they look. I wouldn't cross the road rather than walk between them. Now if they had hoodies on and jeans hanging round their hips I might think these look like scum and cross the road. If they were in skinny jeans, converse boots and beanies then I might think "look at the state of these tossers".  Of course that is all from how their clothes speak. Talk to each group and you might find your very wrong, or you might be right. Clothes say a lot about their wearer, I'm not getting clueless from that picture, then again they might be a gang of crackhead shoplifters for all I know.

If it wasn't for people dressing poorly how would those dressing well stand out?  And another thing worth mentioning is if 1% of Americans dressed this way I would be shocked.  The situation out in the field is much worse than you can imagine.

I think one of the biggest misconceptions of pics from the boom years is that all these people wear these clothes because they spend hours and hours pondering about the right loafer or chino and then made their well-thought decision. They just bought was was around. Ah yes, and the other misconception is that about about muted colours. B&W does not really bring colours across.

Why are these clueless Americans? Like others aid, they are models or "real" kids, and I've seen much worse, really.  Lobster girl looks quite cute. The red trousers are far too tight, but a nice girl, though.

The British must be equally as clueless. This lot could easily be from the suburbs of Henley-on-Thames or anyone of them affluent places SW of the Thames that are overrun with rugger bugger toffs..

Jack Willis, Abercrombie, Hollister are all part of the block party round there instead..

Absolutely correct. Clueless Brits isn't a genre, it's a whole nation!

"Tuckernuck". I like that. You can make a lot of nonsense out of that.

Each 'block' colour in the pic above is also wrong - They haven't even got the basic Pantone palette right.
