I wear a variation of this exact look Heikki. Love it! It's great for showery but warm days. I'll be wearing it tomorrow I think as it's supposed to rain but stay humid. I might swap in my white Vans instead of camp mocs if it's too warm for socks.

Black, Wooly. Cost me more to get them altered, than it did to purchase & receive!

Like it. Generally I am reluctant about Kagoules, but this is nice. New woolrich? Or again one of these items you have to hunt years for?
Also like the St. Vitus-dance.

LOL
thanks
new-ish, i bet it's an eighties piece. got it for $ 15ish from etsy.
Axelist- I found mine while searching for 'rain/ foul weather smocks' on US ebay. Sup[er cheap. About $10 ($8 of which was postage) I think with no other bidders.
Mine is very similar but with a big patch (map) pocket on the front and it's a button closure rather than a zip. I think it was waxed cotton at one point but that's worn out and it's just a kind of hard wearing cotton twill now in a great faded out yellow. No brand visible on the label either. If you look hard enough you'll find them. I guess etsy will turn up some too.

Posted to display my new casual Friday belt.
Lee - I like that madras.
OMG a critter belt! On Talk Ivy! Is that a first? You move in Preppy ways OCBD. No doubt about that. Look like a good rise them thar Khakis though... that makes it all a bit easier for a stick in the mud like me to swallow.
No showers (as I predicted yesterday) for us. Another very sunny day. Not doing much but going for a wee walk and lounging about in the sun.
Howies wide hoop tee in yellow and dark blue
Stone 519 Levis (USA made vintage)
sockless and beltless
White Vans
Ray Ban Wayfarers in tortoiseshell (60's vintage)
Now slightly shaggy 8-4-2 crop.

Liam, one question - how would you know that your Ray Bans are 60s vintage and not let's say, 80s vintage? I'm not too much of a Ray Ban expert but I know them quite well - have had various Wayfarers (model I - the small ones, and model II - still have one pair of each) from the 80s to the 90s, I also have ´78 US bought Outdoorsman in white gold (quite rare) etc... I also have two Luxottica made Ray Bans including Caravans, the other model I dunno. I never spotted any difference between 60s Wayfarers and later ones except when Luxottica bought Ray Ban, then the difference was obvious. With other models it's easier to get them into the right decade, but also not too easy - just because of the looks. Is there any other way to spot the time when they were made?
I believe it's to do with shape size and whether or not the etchings on the lens are there. I'm no expert either but what I read said that they are obviously different from the 50's shapes in that they are more conservative, square and less exaggerated in there frame shape. The 80's versions retained a similar shape but are bigger. Too big for my face. 70's is a grey area I have to say. They could be 70's.
I think they have had the etched Ray Ban on the lenses since the 80's (?) and the white branding on the lens came in a little later again. Lots of reissues since the 80's too and the introduction of the smaller frame as well as the larger 80's style. The popular style now is the larger 80's frame but the smaller style like you say is available too and is virtually identical to the ones I have apart from weight. My ones are much heavier than my Mums pair but are the same size.
This is all pieced together from online research, and probably all a bit off. Long story short it's an educated...ish guess.
Oliver has a pair whih he says are early 60's vintage too and they look identical to mine which sort of lent weight to my guess. Also the pics of Psych hair Bob Dylan in his wayfarers I love. Mine look exactly the same and appear to be the same size.
You sound like you know more about the brand than me (i really don't know anything actually). There's a thread in this somewhere, Dominik. You may be the man for the job.

I wouldn't know too much either, all I know comes from having them ![]()
I guess my 80s Wayfarers (model I, the small one - model II are the bigger ones saying "Ray Ban" on the frame one the sides, those are the "Blues Brothers" shades) are pretty much identical to 60s ones - the etching wasn't there on Wayfarers until the late 90s. Only "BL" engraved like it was in the 70s, too (dunno about the 60s). Dunno if the 60s ones were heavier, mine are pretty heavy due to the Bausch & Lomb glasses, the Luxottica ones from the late 90s on are plastic (pretty good, though - but not the real deal anymore). I suspect that Dylan wasn't wearing Wayfarers - they are different, but my English is too bad to explain it now... This is a good source for NOS B&L Ray Bans:

It doesn't matter if they are 60s, 70s or even 90s... as long as the suit your face and have the terrific B&L glasses!![]()
Lots to consider there Dom. I always just assumed from what I'd read that Dylan wore Wayfarers but then that name has become a generic term for shades of that shape so who knows. He mentions them in Chronicles or the liner notes for the bootlegs maybe. I think that's why I have that impression.
Thanks for putting me right re- the etching. I guess I got my decade wrong on that so the rest is all up for debate. Like the good man of science I am I always look to be put right and don't mind being wrong.
Pretty sure Dylan's 60's shades are not raybans, although he wore raybans later in the 80's - I think he's sporting them on the infidels cover.
The etching on the inner arm with B L followed by a numeric code somehow dates them. I don't remember the specifics anymore since I scored mine about 10 years ago in deadstock condition and haven't needed to bother with since, but I remember reading a buyers guide to vintage frames back then and noting the ID on the inside temple which, along with the obvious aesthetic clues (larger plastic build and shape, pre-logo and hinge etchings, etc) that pre-date '70s and '80s RayBans from the originals.
er, post-date I should say.

Thanks. Good to know.
Does anyone know what they are if not RB's?

I don't think we'll ever know the answer to that Liam. This is the only other guy on the internet, besides noblesurfer, who says they're not ray bans. Like you said everyone sees the black plastic frame and assumes they're ray bans.

Don't mind being wrong, too
(I'm a teacher, teachers are ALWAYS RIGHT. ALWAYS
) - my reference for 60s Wayfarers has always been that pic of Ray Manzarek that's been in a mag when I was a teenager... can't find the mag but found the pic:![]()
I knew that there must be something additional to the shape like some serial number...
Those are the only "normal" (small) Wayfarers I still have that are B&L US-made - they should date back to the late 80s or early 90s (somewhere between 1989 and 1992). Serial number isn't to good to see on the pics but says "B & L 5022":![]()

Apart from all that I begin to believe that Dylan had different shades in the 60s. But I always thought that they were Wayfarers, too. When I was 16 I saw the movie by Pennebaker about his tour in 1965 and let my hair grow a bit and started to dress "Mod" with a big Ivy League influence (without knowing). Always Wayfarers. Always. Wanted to look like him ![]()

Thanks for that info Dominik. I'll maybe dig deeper at some point to try and date these. I guess the could be any thing from 60's to 80's now.
Today was the first outing for my vintage madras sack... which I'm more confident in saying is 60's. It's bled out to burgundy, olive and blue on a almost tan base. Small check and very subtle.
Wore it with a blue Gant poplin BD, Levis stone 519's (same pair as yesterday) and burgundy Weejuns. As yesterday, no socks no belt.
Whenever you know, let me know
- and whenever you own a Digicam (have to buy a new one myself, most pics are made now with the Olympus of Mrs. Leer as mine starts to die) you'll have to post pics of your RB's and your Madras Blazer ![]()

'Tis the season of go to hell madras. And how much better do we feel? Sheds load, I can sacrifice oxford cloth for this.
Linen seemed most appropriate.
