Greaser Ivy

Is there such a thing, I wonder?

Re: Greaser Ivy

It's probably as unlikely as "Geezer Ivy".

In a way, it's a contradiction in terms.

Still, I had to think about it.

You probably had my post as a complete piss take, but it's not just that.

What I was thinking about, was John Simons talking about "Jivy Ivy" as Elvis Presley's style mix of Ivy and high fashion. About Buddy getting into the look. I think he had been introduced by The Everly Brothers. I was thinking about all these nostalgia movies that came out after American Graffiti...

These gang movies like The Warriors, The Wanderers, The Outsiders...

I was thinking about The Ivy Look book mentioning 1950s/ Rockabilly types among the customers in JS, getting crazy about Bass Weejuns.

And yes, Steve McQueen, Brando and Dean, and maybe Monty?

Great hair, nothing dirty or greasy about it, but I'm pretty sure that it's not the kind of haircut that the Beatles or Stones types would have gone for, as Monty doesn't have his fringe combed over his forehead...

Anyway, I was thinking about a classic look, somewhere between the extremes of a very clean cut, correct version of Ivy and a "bad boy" casual style with a decent vanguard (?) haircut a la Monty...

Re: Greaser Ivy

I think of James Dean in the red jacket. Or Monty in the beginning of "A Place In The Sun" in a leather jacket.
