I have the Bass bucks in both dirty and white and they are quite all right. I wore the dirty pair today in fact. Very comfortable, and they have actually held up well. Not a sleek shoe. But they seem to be right on the cheap and cheerful spirit of the buck. I imagine they are suede rather than true nubuck.
I tried a pair of the Walkovers - very narrow. Beautiful suede, but somewhat crude (even compared to the Bass). Has anyone seen the Brazilian O'Connell's bucks in the flesh?
I believe they are the same oas the Brooks Brothers. They look near exact. They are nice. I'd get the s/double with the vibram sole myself.

You really a man on a mission, and I like that.
I do not own a pair now. I wore them in the sixties and early seventies when I was not wearing Jack Purcell’s or Weejuns. I tried the Bass bucks but did not like them. They seemed to wear out too fast. I thought the best value for the price was the shoe sold by Thom McCann. Thom McCann was the retail outlet for shoes made by Melville shoe. At that time Thom McCann shoes were cheaper than other shoe manufacturers. An example would be Weejuns. The Weejun was $14.99. The Thom McCann knockoff was 10.99. The Weejun lasted far longer and was a better value. The Thom McCann buck was cheaper and lasted longer than the Bass model. Thom McCann went out of business during the seventies. From the pictures shown on this thread I Like the Cole Haan model. There is NO way I will pay $450 for a designer buck.
yeah, got a little carried away there. ![]()
on the expensive and formal side, i'm drawn to the sid mashburn bucks, but they don't make them in size 7. i wish one of the cheap casual bucks had the same bright colors as the leffot so it would fit into my wardrobe, but i'll probably go for the bass buckingham in white. i haven't seen them in person, but the colors in the photos shown on revolve look brighter than on bass's website. just have to wait for my size to become available...

found another, but can't find a price:
crockett & jones
anyhow, i ended up getting a pair of vintage walk-overs on ebay. they're a half size smaller than my foot measurement, but they fit nicely even with regular socks. not bad for just under $35 bucks. ![]()
£315 gbp "The Tenby". Vibram textured sole. Great finish,of course, and the 365 last (as the Islay boot). Forefoot looks about right and it feels good on (light) Also in Navy, but why would you?
out of all of them, I think these are my fav, a really nice shape from that view

ASOS Made in England, actually made by NPS Solovair (the original maker of Dr. Martens shoes, a traditional manufacturer in Northampton)...
They arrived today - top quality, really beautiful lightweight shoes - but a tiny bit small, if anyone thinks about them - one number bigger could be the choice... They go back, ordered them again but bigger.
I spotted a few pairs of walkovers when in Manchester at the weekend, £29 a pair, gutted they were all size 9. They were waxed cotton not suede though, did see a chap carrying a pair of dirty bucks though.
Pair of Size 11 suede Walkovers £40 in Brixton TK maxx if anyone's in South London and interested. Very nice, would more than do the job.
Only wish we had the weather here to break out the Sanders I've been saving since the sales last year

is the suede plain white, or are they off-white? i ask because the vintage walk-overs i got turned out to be cream-ish.

I'd say they are more of a plain than an off-white... ![]()
Something in between.

Here they are:![]()
In the meantime I had the opportunity to compare them to both Sanders and Mark McNairys - the Sanders are not so nice to me because being chunkier, the McNairys are the same. The same shoes in other colours... (awful yellow soles etc.) I guess the factory in Northampton where Mc Nairys are made is NPS Solovair. ASOS offers them quite a bit cheaper ![]()
I've not tried them but Lands End Bucks are down from £90 to £29.50 in the sale...

They look OK to me and the price seems pretty good, but I am not that fussy about bucks or hush puppy type shoes.
