Re: Ocular Ivy !

It's hip to be square.  Why not just go for some Sidewinder shades?  That way you wouldn't have to wear them all the time.  I'll try to get the old lady to photo me wearing them out today.  They're a little larger than the Freeways.  More akin to Wayfarers.

I often find some great old frames when I'm out mantiquing, but they are always so small.  Even on my tiny head they just aren't possible.  Same goes with vintage shoes.  Quite ponderous in fact, as I'm as petite as I am sweet.  Even in the Shurons, I have to get the absolutely smallest size possible, and they are only barely passable.

Old frames were worn very small. All round width, depth etc.

Check out James Joyce etc

I'm so unhip I'd never even heard of Shuron. Just think of it! I want me some of that Sidewinder action. I barely need glasses, but I'd make sure I wore them a decent amount. Don't care how many hipsters are in em. Everybody should wear Shurons.

If you do want Shurons go to Vick at  Optometrist Atttice. He is very helpful. I think Heppie might have used him too.

These are the moscot "Lemtosh" model .   http://www.moscot.com/lemtosh_117.html   Similar to the Tart "Arnel".  http://hlwe.wordpress.com/2009/07/29/th … lemtoshes/

I've seen vintage Tart Arnels go for upwards of $750 on ebay. I'm what some might call 'thrifty' (cheap) so I got some Tart repros for about 50 bucks.

I have some vintage Bausch and Lomb and Romco frames(similar to the ones James Dean is wearing in that linc) that I used for reading glasses that I'm looking to sell. They're the light gray color(gray smoke) If anyone is interested PM me and I can send pictures.

I got my very first NOS 60s Tart Arnels back from the opticians a couple of weeks ago. I keep taking them off just to look at them beauties. Couldn't be happier.

Allyn Scura's Legend, as recommended by Zach, are pretty good frames for that Gregory Peck as Aticus Finch or James Dean spectacle look.

I'm with Worried Man on the Shurons: go small. Although my P3's make me look like a Nazi interrogator according to a work colleague. After some trial and error the 40mm (the smallest size) seem the best, maybe 42mm.  The Ronsirs are ideal in 44 or 46mm.

Seconded, those look great Ville. I wear black RayBan club masters at the moment but I'm on the lookout for another pair in a different style to mix things up a bit. I' ll have to keep my eye out for a nice vintage pair. Do you mind me asking what they cost you?

Re: Ocular Ivy !

Funny - I just gave a pair of Shuron Freeways, with clear glass, used as film prop/clothes,  to son and explained he could get them done as shades. Too big and dark for me and my dark hair and eyes - sez Ms.

Re: Ocular Ivy !

Henry - those RayBans looked real good on you. And no, I don't mind you asking. I paid around $150 for the Arnels, I think, which is a about half of what they usually go for on eBay. The solid coloured ones are more expensive, like George said above. So it pays to wait..

This was the first time I have bought frames without trying too, but the fit was good, and they didn't get stuck in customs either, so I think I lucked out at least threefold!

I'm with you guys too. The missus said the arnels could have been a bit bigger, but I think she's just too used to seeing hipsters with oversized frames.

My missus said the other day she wished I would go back to the rimless/Air Titanium square/rectangle styled specs I use to wear when we started dated nearly a decade ago.

Women in horn-rimmed specs can be extremely appealing, in a Blossom Dearie kind of way.

Freeways... all the way!  For me at least...  And Shuron Sidewinders for sunglasses.  Still made in America and trust me, they've endured being dropped, stepped on, smashed with drumsticks, and a multitude of other trauma.  The lenses may scratch or crack, but the frames just keep on keepin' on.  Not to mention, Shuron is a great company to deal with, at least if you live in the U.S.  I called them and they sent me 3 or 4 different sizes in the mail, just to try on.  You can keep the frames you like and return the rest.

Allyn Scura have reproductions of the Tart Arnels in their webstore, I quite fancy a pair too. And they haven't been made larger to appeal to the modern consumer.
