Don - how alarming (or not) is their logo behind the hood (Thanks for that Tom) on that Elka/Norse job?

Those are a sweat fest axe. The unfortunate truth is no one i can find does an ivy friendly goretex or such like packaway, which is a shame because for practical things i don't like taking on the old technology if it's been improved on.

I've been told those elka jackets don't get all sweaty, apparently they're breathable. Might be bullshit though.

I know you can get realitivly cheap breathables now but the ones don posted look like the guy cotton ones, and it doesn't say they're breathable, the more expensive ones might be, i didnt check the spec. I'd have  cheap one if it is!

I've got one of these. Not a fan of Gant, but picked it up from the Regent St sale one day, when it was pissing down

I'd like one of these when the sale comes. Shame they don't do green

At the other end of the market...Peter Storm....Gawd.. I had a Peter Storm "cagoule" as it was known then when I was a Cub Scout... Excuse me - I'm getting emotional and need to take a moment...

Not cheap, but one or two of you might be interested in Hilltrek in Aboyne.

Mostly old-school Ventile and even a MTM service.

Aye i want it cheap, the cheaper the better if it's going to get trashed on and off the bike. I wish there was a shop that did cheap but nicely designed stuff you could just live in without being precious about, the idea of buying expensive everyday stuff is mental. We're being sold a lie, a lie i tell you! I don't say that japanese company that do the cheap stuff, it doesn't fit me!

Re: It's peeing down...it's windy... so what do we wear?

Aye 'tis true. I bought a very nice expensive RTW suit from Pal Zileri and it was magnificent chalk stripe with black and thin orange stripes. After about 3 months of intermittent wear that was not extensive, the pants gave way. I spoke to the assistant in the shop I bought them and his reply was that I shouldn't be wearing such a suit for work as it was too delicate and would not stand the rigours of office wear. For that I needed a cheaper suit of more rigorous construction.

That was about the time I started to turn on Italian fashion houses in general.

At the cheaper end, Keela is worth a look (the Scots obviously know a thing or two about rain). Looks like their wee labels should be quite easy to remove too.

Since you mention 'on the bike' - style goes out the window for me when it's pissing down. It's a dayglo hi-viz ex-police cycling jacket here. Made by Yaffy (in Scotland).

Re: It's peeing down...it's windy... so what do we wear?

I'm not ever on the road on it, but i know what you mean who wants to be the most ivy of corpses? I just went into fatface and bought what i reckon is quite a nice jacket for 40 quid, my test to myself in shops like that is, if this had a brand i liked on it would i buy it. And this one to me said yes. So there we go problem solved my end. I didn't want to spend any more than that

No it's a 70s anorak.  Very little warmth and can't deflect anything stronger than drizzle, but I like it.  It really reminds me of the preppy photos on HTJ blog (which were panned on this forum recently).  I'm sure Woolrich have changed the materials used in their anoraks since the 70s.  (They also outsource now, I think.)

Liam called them 'dull' and you said you loved the 'absolute shitness' - a backhanded compliment, if ever I heard one.

The joke is, those guys look infinitely better than most posters on this forum.  With a lot less effort too, I imagine.

The Cambridge (UK) students look a bit dire, to be fair (although I also like those photos).

I see how you could've misunderstood that, the thing with those first is you know all the clothes are kosher, the quality is there, and the style is not too disimilar than that ealry 80's AWIL style me a L both like, outdoorsy, East Coast, my only problem really is the trousers, and the puddling.

American Werewolf in London?

I really liked those 80's photos, I thought they were fantastic. They showed what real people wore, instead of ads, actors or what-are-you-wearing forum shots. I would wear the clothes differently, but great nevertheless.
