'Vintage' Keydge -

Scored my first, a 'Biscuity' Linen number yesterday. Previously I'd only bought new stock from Chiltern Street. I did swapsies for it with some '80s Shaggy Dogs...

As I knew from seeing it on a mate beforehand,  the pre-'Chiltern Street' stock (So let's say 2010/2011) had a longer line.

Modern Keydge (my latest from JS in only weeks old) has 2" between sleeve cuff and jacket hem. Older Keydge has 4".

Bring back the old Keydge !

I guess they've shortened the jacket length to go with the current short jacket thing.

Both jackets compared are size 50 in the Ivy cut with all the other datails the same.

The older jacket is 'J*Keydge', not 'J.Keydge' from the 'Russell Street' years, so at least pre-2010. I've no more precise dating, I'm afraid. Wish I had !

So... NOS Keydge? Where do we find that?

'J*Keydge' (J Star Keydge) would seem to be the label to look for.

Re: 'Vintage' Keydge -

The new cord jackets are also shorter than the cord jacket from a couple of years ago (both have non-starred labels)
but my seersucker (twin vent version) I bought in France ages ago is shorter than last summers version.

All are size 52, but the difference in both cases is about  2" sleeve to hem as you noted above Jim.

I still love them all, but  to concur with Jim my old cord one (longer) is the most flattering.

I'm up for it. Maybe starting an 'event' on the JS FB page is the way to go?

Re: 'Vintage' Keydge -

Interesting. I have three Keydge jackets so far. One was bought from their website last year, the other two are longer and seem to be older.. Will have a look at the labels to see if they say J.Keydge or J.*Keydge.

"Older = longer" seems to be the pattern here.

Re: 'Vintage' Keydge -

The newer Keydge's are indeed a smaller fit, when I was in J.Simons, Paul demonstrated this to me. The newer ones I needed a 54 and the older a 52 was sufficient. Despite being totally against Chinese manufacture in principle, I did indeed purchase a very fine grey herringbone Keydge.

According to Paul, the owner of Keydge is basing himself out in China at the moment to keep an eye on the manufacturing, and those of with experience out there, can conform you need to police the manufacturing process or you will end up with something not quite bargained for.

The two "longer" ones indeed have the star. Seems that Jim found the reason for the erratic sizing which was discussed on here before.

Re: 'Vintage' Keydge -

Not sure about this theory: The change in sizing & jacket length is due to Keydge now being made in China ??????

More likely it's a skinny/shorter fashion thing rather than them being cut for smaller bodies, IMO.

Odering up a size now is the way to go. The length is fine, but I wouldn't go any shorter.

Still like the (older) longer line Keydge best. Each to their own.

Re: 'Vintage' Keydge -

That's what I meant - they changed their style. Option 2, so to say.

Besides that, I like all three of them. Can't say more, I have this guy who calls himself "Pierre Le Fou" sitting next to me. He was waiting for me on the sofa, when I came home. Regarding the clothes he is wearing, DHL must find themselves a new driver, I am afraid.

Well I'd be looking for one in cerise narturally....I assume they'd come in a range of colours?

Their website seems to have moved on a bit at least...
