Re: Santoni vs. Lattanzi

Lattanzi hands down, but Santoni are also half the price of Lattanzi too. Lattanzi have a fair amount more handwork than Santoni fatte a Mano and are better constructed, hence the higher price. Lattanzi also bury their shoes for 9 months in the ground before they go on sale. Don't know how the Lattanzi leather quality compares to Santoni Fatte a Mano though. Santoni Fatte a Mano (tan sock) are still a great shoe.

Re: Santoni vs. Lattanzi

The Lattanzis are like $2700-3500 a pair for ready made and something like $4500-the moon for MTM. In Naples that may be possible but in NYC, land of the "Shoe Scraper" it's asking for trouble.

Honestly, for that money just have cleverly or Gaizano make them for you.

Lattanzis are very beautiful.

Santonis are half the price but that doesnt mean theyre giving them away.

Re: Santoni vs. Lattanzi

I think that I also am going to go with either a Santoni fatto a mano or else try ordering (perhaps special-ordering) a pair of Vass through www.budapester.de

Ronny, I was also looking at the Oxford Medalion - either that or the Wholecut Medalion (though the latter is on a rather ugly-looking last)

Re: Santoni vs. Lattanzi

Not all of Lattanzi's shoes are buried in a pit, only a certain special collection, with which one is provided with a notarized certificate.

Silvano Lattanzi's RTW to some people, is the best RTW one can buy with most of the characteristics of a bespoke shoe although one pays for it.

However, many of their shoes are entirely outlandish, and hideous exhibiting multiple variations of handwork.

Yes, strangley enough Santoni can be very conservative (see the pic of my brogue and monk that i've posted here, l've also got a conservative toecap that i'm yet to put on this sight), they can also be very modern and out there.
