Fortunately I go to a pub where you can get away with putting this on if you DJ at the weekend....

Stunningly beautiful, totally disarming. I imagine this is what Moses heard as the Jews fled Egypt or something. This is really doing it for me at the moment.

Of course, if you aren't into this abrasive avant-/free jazz, then you'll be horrified - but if you are, you're dealing with masters.

Today I shall be mostly listening to...

On The Corner - Miles Davis,
Maiden Voyage - Herbie Hancock,
a Verve Getz/Gilberto compilation.

Re: What Jazz are you listening too? or WJAYLT for short.

Bit of a unimpressive name drop for most on here, but today I had the pleasure of meeting James Corden's Dad again for the second time, he's a really top guy, and massive jazz fan and saxophonist, after fitting him for his suit, we had a good chat about his love of swing bands, and all the people he had seen down Ronnie Scott's, he's a massive Rollins, Pepper, Parker, and Getz fan. But the one bit on trivia he put past me that I can't find mention of, but is quite funny is, did Art Pepper change his name to Art Salt at some point to avoid paying tax for a time? Or was he pulling my leg?

Indeed, there are several recordings of Art Pepper as Art Salt with Getz, Manne and Rogers. It was a sideman project. I need to dig out some of the albums. I think it some cases it was a contractual and not only a tax issue. He was apparently very pleased that some fans considered that Art Salt was a black alto player.
