Re: I am after a new Shetland

They are pretty expensive, $165 and then shipping cost at $45 is too much for my already strained budget.

LL Bean do cheap and ok Shetlands.  But they're made in Chnia rather than Scotland.

Re: I am after a new Shetland

I can recommend Arthur Shepherd a traditional menswear shop in Cambridge.

http://www.arthurshepherd.co.uk/stock.php

They stock tradional shetlands by Harley of Scotland, the quality and fit are good. The knit isn't quite as heavy as Odie's which I find can be too hot to wear in all but the coldest weather, this makes them more usable in my opinion.  Shepherds keep a good of range colours and they are extremely helpful when you ring up. Last time I bought from them the guy who served me took a picture on his phone and emailed it to me so I could see the colour shade. From memory they are about £65.

Some of the colours are shown on this US website but just to keep things interesting Harley seem to use different colour names when they market them in the UK!

Re: I am after a new Shetland

The Laurence Odie is a beautiful Shetland but I find it to run a little small so take that into account when you order one ... anybody else notice this?  No quibble whatsoever with the quality of the sweater, just was surprised at the size, returned mine to O'Connell's and might try again later.  I take a 43, ordered a 44, it was tight on me, will check out the next size up, the thing is worth trying to get right.  If in doubt, size up.

Re: I am after a new Shetland

Mmmmm....The joy of finding somewhere one can pop into it and try on first..
I wouldn't fanny around ordering a shetland online tbh...nowt worse than having to send shit back and still be unsure of what size to go for!
Even instore you can try 3 versions of the same knit & I'd fair wager they'd all fit differently...
JS did have a new shipment in of stuff when I last popped by a few weeks back but it was still sweltering and so I wasnae gonna go near trying them out ya ken?!?

Re: I am after a new Shetland

I'm going to pop into town tomorrow. I may get lucky but probably not. I know one place who sell Alan Paine and a couple of places who do fairisle. The Shetland we all know and love though don't seem to pop up. I guess they just aren't a popular pattern in Scotchland...

Will report back.

Re: I am after a new Shetland

If you telephone Lawrence Odie and ask for the factory shop there's a nice lady called Rosemary who will advise you what size to go for.
