The Navy Blue Polo Shirt - as modelled by The PM

David Cameron is the butt of columnists jibes for always wearing a blue polo shirt for leisure wear..............

http://fashion.telegraph.co.uk/news-features/TMG10254564/David-Camerons-holiday-style-rut.html

He does have an unfortunate habit of wearing them with black shorts which looks terrible, but as an item of clothing the navy blue polo has got a lot going for it.

There is a cartoon of "Call Me Dave" & Mrs on holiday. He is not wearing his usual black holiday shoes.

The caption is a play on the word "loafers".

A navy blue polo looks sublime with khaki shorts or trousers, a classic look.

Re: The Navy Blue Polo Shirt - as modelled by The PM

I didn't get that from O'Connell's... I'm pretty sure it's a Smedley. Does O'C carry them now?

I have 2 polos from O'Connell's that I like a lot but they're a lot blousier and less tapered than JS. I can get away with wearing them under a madras jacket but wouldn't otherwise dress them up. I mostly wear them casually with bermuda shorts.

Speaking of which... anyone have experience with O'Connell's in-house bermudas? I'm thinking about a pair in navy poplin or khaki (not sure if that's a bit too Crocodile Dundee?) and would love to get some feedback!

Navy, I think, is the only colour I'd consider for a polo shirt.

The poor man's Smedley may be the Woolovers cotton/cashmere knit polos.

The navy blue polo shirt is a bit of a regular in my wardrobe,
I used to favour the classic Lacoste but in recent years the quality has been too erratic (particularly at their price point) so have been buying the Uniqlo spread collar polo instead (only £15) they don't survive laundering as long as the Lacoste but they have a pocket for your sunglasses big_smile

i'm partial to off-white. have got a very old lacoste one in said colour, breat with jeans & dessies / white trainers / camp mocs.

navy, maroon, racing green will get my vote, too. and bright red on occasion. when i'm feeling sinister.

For me navy blue is the king of polo shirts....looks particularly good with khaki and under a range of sports jacket patterns when a more casual look is dictated.  I favour white to a lesser degree ....nice with madras shorts in the summer.

The Orlebar Brown Polo is excellent. It's heavy yet quite an open weave, and the collar feels substantial enough to hold its own for a long time without kinking.

Dark blue - but not navy  - which I find too severe in a shirt.

Dark blue is lighter than navy Kingy, do you mean midnight blue? I know what you're trying to say sometimes the blue can be a little bit jazzy even when its a dark shade
