Keydge vs Alternatives

So I need a Summer jacket and I want something cotton  and shaped like a J keydge. I am willing to pay for the real deal, but I'm also intrested in other ideas. Put a cheeky bid in on an LVC Sunset but that's more of a work jacket, Dockers have something but it looks darted and has strange pocket details... Any other suggestions?

Keydge is the way to go IMHO. Never regretted.

Re: Keydge vs Alternatives

Personally if you don't want to pay the money...and im not sure they're worth it re. The keydge. Id get a RL cotton 3 button like this.

http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=201106386412

These jackets are great, the proportions are perfect and because of the construction they can be altered.

If someone knocked these out without a dart youd have a winner. Also the dart doesnt make it waisted it sits better than the keydge.

If you really wanted no dart though...either go keydge or scour the vintage on ebay and etsy for a linen, seer sucker or madras sack.

I don't mind darts, but that unlined style is very hard to find. Keydge wear like iron, ventilate terrifically, wash in the machine and give you six pockets.

Hold up six pockets? Ive counted five. .or are you counting the divided pocket as two? I just use that for poker winnings

By poker winnings, you mean the spare buttons right?

Re: Keydge vs Alternatives

What's the lightest material they do... because I wouldn't say these ramie ones are cool. A lot like being draped in a heavy canvas.

The linen is not light, but airy. I can even wear it as a sun cover-up in very hot weather.

For sheer lightness alone, old madras jackets are the way to go. Many of these are fully lined.

Re: Keydge vs Alternatives

Like I said I think an RL for 50 quid is a much better deal than a full price keydge. The lining is buggy and in the sleeves but feels cooler than the ramie keydge, and the construction is better  But obviously it will be darted. I'll leave it at that good luck with your jacket hunt!

Re: Keydge vs Alternatives

Hve to second Bop. Keydge is great, an Ivy slack ticks almost all boxes: No darts, three patch pockets, unlined etc etc. But the RL are great, also. Over the years, I bought some in their outlet and like them, too. They almost always have darts, though.

I a Keydge (Or RL) worth the full price? I am not sure.

Muji, as mentioned before,  (I really should get some kickbacks from them) always have unconstructed jackets, too.But from the discussed brands, they are the farest away from the ideal jacket most on here have in mind.

Just to get a repp..

Re: Keydge vs Alternatives

Alpha sizing is annoying but personally I couldnt call the xl to xll being much different than going from a 48 to a 50 on these RLs. The Oconnels however do sound good but like you mention with their cost. I was thinking about Tommy's restricted funds.

Re: Keydge vs Alternatives

I've been putting a few pennies aside for this. I've had some luck with picking up a few things  like shirts  and shoes up lately. I'll look for the RL online and in outlets if I get the chance since it does  look nice and it only looks subtly darted. However I've seen a fella in passing the last few days on my travels at work who has picked up a sort of Ivy look, but is quite off on a few essential details. It made  me think that with something like this its important to get it right. That said I'm probably more intrested in McQueen/ Newman and the London adoption of the look than looking like I'm at Harvard  in 1962?

Re: Keydge vs Alternatives

This is the problem with the keydge imo whether darted on not the complete look imo seems to be more european I think because of the high arm holes and shorter length. I'll take a dart on something that otherwise looks right than not having a dart on something that doesn't really grab the look.

Re: Keydge vs Alternatives

I tell you what I do like about the keydge in cotton is it does carry its own charm in a way like an old 20s or 30s jacket
