Re: longwings

I would stay away from modern AE, they really seem to be too pricey and it seems quality went down... I would give (honestly!!!!) Give Meermin a try. Cannot post the link - meermin.es, classic collection, 101375, tan county calf... Look good. Better than any Loake or Grenson or Barker...

Very nice - wait a minute! Full double sole - not for me thanks.

Anyway, maybe the JS MacNeils are old stock, as that would explain how he has pebblegrains. I will give them a look if I can get into the capital.

Re: longwings

The pebble-grain version of the Florsheim Kenmoor is available again, it's colour is listed as 'tumbled cognac' on some sites and just 'cognac' on others, a fairly decent price at onlineshoes.com and they will ship to the UK...

Re: longwings

Thanks for the info, but to go from vintage Florsheim Royals to today's 'Florsheim' would be a bit like leaving a long term relationship with early 60s Monica Vitti, then 'going out with' a poor quality blow up doll.

^ They look nice and the shoes I've seen in Brooks Brothers have always been good quality.

Re: longwings

Interesting that they not only come in pebble-grain but are cheaper than AE Mcneils.
I wonder who they are made by? Do i detect a slight chiseling at the toe like a Mcneil ?
