Re: The iconic 50s Italian suit.

Looks pretty good to me! I recently watched a mid 50s French film Les Diaboliques, in which a 3 button PoW suit plays an important role. And it's a superb suit. Who was better dressed in the 50s - the French or the Italians? I'd have to watch more 50s Italian films to know for sure, but I'm certainly very impressed by the French.

I don't think there's a need for a swelled chest or extended shoulder line with Ventura as he was a big bloke anyway. An ex-wrestler as I recall.

The first suit, whilst probably very well made, is not faltering in my opinion. Makes him look even more top heavy than he actually is.

I can't see the jacket in the second photo (reading the paper) but the cloth is nice.

Im with Formby on that, almost looks cartoon, fortunately his massive square head is just large enough to get away with the shoulderline

Bob Le Flambeur is another top 50s French film with some very nice clothes in it. Bob always looks very dapper (except right at the start of the film).

Rififi is good as well but nowhere near as good as Grisbi or Bob imo.

Carpu, I'm curious: do you wear vintage clothes, or do you get a tailor to recreate vintage styles? Or do you wear the fashions of today?

Good stuff! I'm not an anglophile at all when it comes to style, but Italian and French style of the 50s and 60s really appeals to me, so I can well understand why it inspires Carpu.

Great tailors in Bari.
South Italy tailoring is different from Neapolitan,is more built.
