Can't go wrong with these. Worth the price imo.

They have vests too, but I prefer the long sleeves, since they're more versatile I think. I'm not a fan of vests, unless they're worn under a jacket.

The current Brooks Bros. cashmere v-necks are great - they're in the sale at the moment for £150 - half price - which is a steal for a Scottish made cashmere. (I paid full price in November for a lovely fawn one, and I haven't even worn it yet!)
I have a super old Brooks v-neck sweater which is really nice even though I usually prefer a crewneck. I do have a few sweater vests, which I enjoy. I don't like to wear any sort of v-neck without a jacket so for me a v-neck sweater is exactly as useful as a sweater vest; it just depends on how warm I want to be.
If I remember correctly, I got the BB v-neck (in pristine condition) for a song on Ebay a few years back. I'd recommend keeping an eye there because you never know what kind of deal you may find. Like a desk chair thrift store!
I will keep an eye out for the V-neck shetlands! The LL Beans seems to be on eBay quite often.
Vtg Brooks and Allen Payne lambswool on Etsy also.
Yeah...forgot about etsy. Too many options
Sancho, looks like your size... grab this before someone else does man!

Several colours with 60% off in the J Press sale

The secret with v-necks and jumpers in general, is don't waste money on 'em. The expensive ones are as prone to moth attacks and wearing out on elbows as much as the cheap ones. But then you have to contend with often odd and gigantic sizing.
The J.Press sale looks ideal.
Is Alan Paines' current ones equal to the vintage ones? I saw them in a store here in Sweden, but never tried them on though.
Cordings are selling shetlands, is this news? I hadn't noticed them before;

I think the cordings V-necks are PIMP.

And I am also a fan of their button through vests;

I got a NWOT Pringle merino v neck sweater recently. A recent vintage I believe but the quality is superb, the style is classic and it works perfectly with classic ivy, with or without a tweed sack in the mix. Whether or not merino wool existed back in the day I have no idea, but I do know Shetland wool was not the only game in town back on the boom years ivy knitwear scene.

And I have read (on here naturally) that JS used to stock Pringle.
Let's face it few modern products are as good as their vintage equivalents, but Alan Paine is one of the better knitwear brands out there, I was sad when their factory shop in Godalming closed.
I'm not keen on the look of those Cordings button through vests, no button on the bottom (to leave undone of course) and they look too 'tailored in' for my taste. The other stuff looks promising though.
/\ assuming the sizes are on point and the cut is decent the blue lovat and navy Shetlands look great, Chief and Sancho, and so do nearly all of the v-necks ....
... made in Scotland, git r done
