What a terrible place "El Corte Ingles". Always the worst service, the craziest or most mundane clothes and to top it all off very expensive. Looking at the late owner explains a lot of things. Madrid has always been a place of dubious fashions.

Re: Is Simon Crompton the new Francis Bown?

JUST FOUND THIS, I KNEW THIS SIMON WAS A MAD PERSON, HENCE HIS LOOKS AND LIES, HERE IS TO PUT HIM A STRAIGHT JACKET, HE POINTS A 9 OUT of 10 the Burgos shirt, then he reckons is the worst of the 3 he compared, but ends asking this guy where did he say was better than Kiton, where he rated far lesser. MAN IS NUTS!!!

With respect, in my opinion the Burgos shirt is one of the worst bespoke shirt I have ever seen. The fit is really bad , too much excess fabric at the chest. The shirt has no skirt. The shoulders have no height correction. The button stance is off and is not straight. The cuffs are awful and the stitching is badly done. The hand stitching of the buttonholes is done with cheap thread, and where is the last button?

Thanks Dan. I agree that the Burgos shirt was the worst of the three I tried. However, I really don’t think you can accurately assess any of those fit aspects from these photos. Almost any bespoke fitting photos online have to be merely illustrative

Simon, I was browsing through some of you articles and just saw these last two comments. If the shirt was the worst out of the three, how come you ranked it higher than the Kiton shirt? I always thought your reviews were something your readers could rely on. Also, may I remind you of the email exchange we had in May about the issues with Passaggio Cravatte? Have you already had time to look into that? If so, will you be updating your articles on Passaggio Cravatte? Thanks and regards. Luc

Hi Luc,
Could you point out where I said it was better than Kiton? I’ll try and straighten out any inconsistency.
And yes, thanks for the reminder on Passaggio. I’ve talked to a couple people about it but don’t have a definitive answer, and try never to publish anything that is not thoroughly substantiated.
Any other questions let me know
Thanks

I like the statement "Linen is a very forgiving material": the rumpling creases and wrinkles just melt away, arriving at one's destination all crisp and smart.

Besides that, it is what it is, a linen suit.

I am a particular fan of rumply-ness, though not in a business setting. Down in the islands it's a must.

If you don't like 'rumply-ness' then don't get linen. Simples...

Which reminds me, I need to post mine.

Too much logic there formby. The iGentry can't be expected to comport themselves in a rational manner.

You really aren't aiming for sharp tailoring though, so it's not really a big deal. It's a very casual look.

Somehow, I wish it had been the colour scheme of the Allegro car: available in all colours, so long as it was runny green cow pat.

Bringing back the other half of the title duo, has Francis Bown spewed any pretentious drivel lately?

Re: Is Simon Crompton the new Francis Bown?

As someone said, rumpled is fine on a beach, preferably with a worn straw hat, a mojito, and your trousers rolled up past your ankles, but not in London in September, and not with a plain navy blue tie and spread collar shirt.

In this instance he looks like he's just woken up from his bench in Hyde Park.
