Re: Movie's that inspire the look.

I have an almost identical linen - I'll post a picture (from last summer) later today.

As I recall Delon's is Italian, i.e. darted with side vents or unvented.

Re: Movie's that inspire the look.

Okay, well mine's a linen sack but it otherwise looks pretty spot-on - only cooler!

I have some photos that my grandma sent me months ago (with little grandma captions on them; ie. "my handsome grandson!" haha) that I'll scan and post later today.

Re: Movie's that inspire the look.

I'm sure most on here only want US kit but I must admit, I would be tempted by vintage Italian jackets from the early 60s if I had the opportunity to acquire some.

I don't think Italians ever get rid of their old clothes, plus the difference in population sizes between Italy and the US means Italian 50s/60s clothing must be far harder to find in vintage than its US equivalent. And Italians got most suits etc tailored back in the day so sizing will be more erratic. (Italian American clothing does crop up, but that's a different story that has far less appeal to me.)

Re: Movie's that inspire the look.

I watched "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom" last night.

The film tries to cram too much in, although Idris Alba's performance was strong.

It's visually entertaining with some nice suits during the '60s era and plenty of overcoats, knitwear, casual wear; etc.

The street clobber of the young SA's reminded me of those Life magazine pictures someone posted up here a while back of those NY or LA delinquents being harassed by the cops.

There's plenty of classic cars too for your whack...

The book's good. All the vintage photos of NM I've seen he's been in proper giant shoulder 40s style double breasteds.

I watched "A Beautiful Mind" last night.

Apart from being a very good film there's lots of late '40s Princeton campus action on the clothes front.

movie is filled with Ivy as well as great shots of old New York, super nostalgic ......

strong example of the polo shirt being worn under the sack sport coat ....

Yeah it's a favorite not least of all for the great handheld documentary-verite like b&w photography of old New York. It's too bad Pappy didn't get a chance to do more work outside of television.

Re: Movie's that inspire the look.

rewatched Last Train To Gun Hill the other day and I noticed Kirk seems to be wearing a very press-like 3/2 jacket... strange to see in a period western.

Re: Movie's that inspire the look.

The Rum Diary:

not a classic movie by any stretch but worth watching for many good examples of warm-weather Ivy, particularly for those who like the Kennedyesque look of a sport coat worn over a polo shirt ....

good Baracuta and Ray-Ban action too ....

from the NYT review: "Connoisseurs of straw hats and cool sunglasses will find much to savor, as will aficionados of guilt-free cigarette smoking and midday boozing. "

Re: Movie's that inspire the look.

A Most Violent Year - saw this last night, although I see it was released last year. It's set in 81, but believe it or not the clothes are actually pretty accurate, and that includes some absolute beauties of BDs. Very probably old school Brooks. Even the non-ivy kit is quite pleasant, and the film itself is also good imo. Proving my theory that the quality of the clothes in a period film is similar to the quality of the film as a whole. Recommended.
