I had to hold shooey down to stop him hyperventilating  and floating off before he could get the shoes on.

Re: My Cleverley bespoke shoes (pictures)

I'm still pretty much off me tits about `em. They look fantastic on the feet, photos don't really do them justice. The fit is superb and l have been wearing them 2 hours each evening to soften them up (they will need some break in). An all day or half day wearing will be later in the week.

Teemu made the last, clicked the leather and cut the pattern. It shows how good he is...he is an artist. Morio did the fine needle work stitching of the soles and bevelled waist etc. Teemu and myself have an intricate meeting of the minds on the finest of details, it is obvious he is very good at his job. Each alligator skin had very small imperfections (hardly noticable) which is also a character of the alligator...Teemu also matched those up on each skin.

myth = the better fitting a shoe, no break in required. Some of my best fitting shoes have required short break ins, and you know they are really going to mold to the foot well.

It's very important to have a good pair of shoes with no expenses spared. George Glasgow has it right when he says that we "need a good quality bed and pair of shoos, because if you aren't in one you are in the other". It is interesting how many shoemakers have said that, and l have always thought that too.

Re: My Cleverley bespoke shoes (pictures)

Did the shoes come with a certificate as evidence that the alligator leather was from sound renewable sources? A mate of mind got into trouble with the customs here when he tried to import a pair of alligator shoes from the US. The letter that they confiscated the shoes and that he was marked man for special attention for any overseas orders he placed and any future attempts to bring croc/alligator shoes in without a valid certificate would lead to prosecution by the authorities.

Re: My Cleverley bespoke shoes (pictures)

a very nice pair of shoes .. quite ostentatious I may say so, perhaps not an everyday shoe but one for special occasions where they would make a real statement.

im interested in how you find the metal heel tap? since that's the part of the shoe which takes the most impact as the heel strikes the floor does this cause any issues?

I like those Shooey. They are rather Hip. It's interesting that you chose blue alligator. Blue as a shade for shoes and suits/jackets is quite fashionable.
Alligator doesn't have much give. Did you find the fit satisfactory even as your feet swelled a bit?

Re: My Cleverley bespoke shoes (pictures)

Shooey,

If asked - I'd have been temped by a pair of blue alligator shoes but in the end would have said "no thanks, not for me"; this is based on seeing various 'RTW' alligator leather shoes in the past. Yours though would be accepted in an instant partly due to the shade of blue you picked & also because of the shape & finishing which is magnificent.

You can deservedly be totally satisfied with those shoes.

Sadly I doubt if I’d be able to justify the surcharge for exotic leathers but seeing the form of your shoe (…the sole alone..!) does make me think I should abstain for a while from buying Greens or G&G’s (which are my daily wear) & put the money toward a visit to Cleverley.

Well done – getting exactly what you wanted & being satisfied with the result isn’t easy to achieve.

Re: My Cleverley bespoke shoes (pictures)

Shooey, those are magnificent, spectacular in all respects!!   That shade of blue seem to have a tad of purple in it and should literally be called "perfect blue".   The last is very elegant as well. This is the king of kings.

Sadly I don't have that kind of money for a cleverly but I will attempt to make my own with a pair of matched alligator skins which I will need to obtain. Although I am much closer to the source, getting the skins through customs (despite being of legal proper origin with paper work) will be a serious challenge.

The waist treatment is very nice and tight. Is this portion pegged?

BTW love the socks. What are they?

Re: My Cleverley bespoke shoes (pictures)

Shooey,

I always enjoy seeing someone possess & use the best of something if they can manage to do so – even better when it’s a stunner!

I don’t think you’ve mentioned these shoes on the forum recently so I was wondering how you were finding them with a few miles under their belt?

Also are there any aspects which you’d insist on again or change next time? I’m not thinking of styling – more like for instance – would a looser or tighter initial fit have been better bearing in mind how reptile leather may or may not ‘ease’ compared to calf after some use; or is there anything particular about the grade/appearance of the skin that you’d consider a ‘must’ to ask for etc?

I admit to some degree I’m asking with my own potential future buying plans in mind as any first bespoke garment or shoe is a bit of a leap in the dark but even more so when the raincoat of an alligator is concerned.

Regards
Russell
