Re: I believe in Orvis khakis!

Without visual references at immediate hand I'd guess.... both?

Re: I believe in Orvis khakis!

lurker here...can anyone provide info on how much vanity sizing there is in the waist of the Orvis trim fits?

I typically fit in pants marked either 35 or 36 (the actual waist width that fits me is 36.5-37 inches). Not sure if I should go with a 35 or 36 in the Orvis.

I see one comment on the reviews on the Orvis website that say the waist runs a bit large.

Re: I believe in Orvis khakis!

I believe !  The trim fits arrived today and the cut is absolutely perfect in my opinion.

Excellent in fact.....Tapered but with enough room if you know what i mean.

A slight elephant ears problem with the pockets but overall a thumbs up from me

Thanks for the tip Woof.

So, compared to the OC's?  Better?

Re: I believe in Orvis khakis!

Thats a difficult question to answer WM.

As you know in my big boy size the cut on the OCs was humungous and needed major surgery.

For me and my shape the Orvis really are the winner.

The OCs do edge it on the cloth and construction though.

However remember my Khaki OCs were completely different to my Navy ones.

At the time we spoke and suspected that the Khaki were Hertling and the Navy not.

Re: I believe in Orvis khakis!

Do you reckon a tailor could get rid of the elephant ears thing (reshaping the edge of the pocket) or is that something you just have to live with ?

I have one other pair of trousers that does that and it annoys me a bit

Usually a result of the waist and/or seat being too tight.  I've had two pairs of khakis start doing that after a few washings as they shrank a bit.  Took them to the alterations lady to have the seat and waist let out a bit and it fixed it.  But, with flat-front trousers with on-seam pockets, this is a fairly typical issue.  The pockets just want to bulge, especially when sitting.

Re: I believe in Orvis khakis!

Sorry I'm too lazy to reread the whole thread - how does the rise on these compare to O'Connell's? Do they all have some sort of pocket problem? 49 pounds is tempting but not unmissable.

some sort of banal legitimacy

Re: I believe in Orvis khakis!

I ordered a pair last night with cuffs.  Orvis have just called to say that cuffs are not an option, and only plain bottoms are available.  I asked why they offer them as an option on the website, and was told that ..................wait for it....................it was a "computer error". Priceless.

Re: I believe in Orvis khakis!

That's odd about the cuffs... I ordered over the phone and they were able to do me a 1 1/2" cuff upon request.  However I returned them as a little too baggy in the seat/thigh for me and the seams weren't even on the right leg (a problem discussed on here in relation to other cheaply made trousers, something about not being cut on the bias).

..they were done an inch wide for me.

Orvis are OK after a tweak at a seamstress for knocking about in but they don't compare at all to O'connell's in my opinion.

*Thanks Yuca ; )*
