Re: The Late 70s Prep Checklist

seeing the same people on a daily basis for years you really get to know people's style, it was interesting to follow ....

regarding Funky Chic, there was still some of that going around in the Carter years of the late '70s and it stayed around as punk gear during the Reagan era .....

but I only knew one kid who wore it, he was a doppelganger of White Album-era John Lennon, ultra-preppy Deadhead and one of the best-liked guys in school RIP

Haha! Thanks man. I am sure nothing to worry about. A mild case of prep.

We'll hire a Vintage John Deere Chuck and have it LARGE at 5mph (max) with a bottle o' moonshine...

We'll then take on Talk Ivy with our pitchforks at a pre-arranged destination....he he...

Re: The Late 70s Prep Checklist

the Levi's aviation chinos above look very cool, I would have bought them, but practically they just weren't around and nobody had them

Bean by the ton, Orvis too, Dickies yes, but not those, and Duck Head was not around either, apparently that was a Southern thing ....

Outside my New York-Connecticut-Massachusetts experience however maybe ....

but there was no significant military surplus clothing being worn at Yale in the late '70s/early '80s.

there were a few non-preppy kids who showed up with disco threads, but they were smart and quick studies every one and they jettisoned that stuff in a trice.

another trend that did not thrive in the Bean years at the campuses of the Northeast was the cowboy boot craze brought on by Dallas.

as I have mentioned before, I wore Levi's jackets, pocket t-shirts, Brooks lambswool v-necks from England, J. Press plain-collar flap-pocket old Viyella shirts from England, khakis from Bean and Orvis, Lincoln green chinos from Dickies, Co-Op blucher mocs from Maine, Sperry canvas deck shoes in off-white and in faded navy, Jack Purcells in off-white and in black, and Tretorn Nylites, among many other tennis shoes as I was and remain a sneaker freak.

the ocbds ... mainly got worn in the first two weeks after returning from vacation, when I had a freshly laundered supply ....

otherwise, in the event I needed a fresh ocbd, the path of least resistance was to charge a new one at Press for $22.

At the risk of being hooted at, here's someone who seems inoffensive writing about Huntington in you-know-who's you-know-what

Otter : Take it easy, I'm pre-law.
Boon : I thought you were pre-med.

Just thought I'd drop this link, 80s Italy influenced by 70's prep perhaps.
