So, as the title suggests i'm after recommendations to jazz joints whilst over in LA.
so far I have Vibrato Jazz and Grill in Bel-Air, The Tap Room in Pasedena and this link from Mr Watkins https://www.lajazz.com
Fell free to chip in hep cats.
Catalina Bar & Grill, on Sunset Boulevard. get's some big names and the food is very decent ( and a bit cheaper than Vibrato ).
'pour vous' on Melrose, strict dress code (check the website, but a collar and tie is encouraged ), good cocktails and decor with live jazz mid-week. Lisitings are updated by their Facebook page.
The Charleston is now gone but the management team are doing 'pop-up' bars in Downtown LA, I'll try to find out more.
The Lighthouse Cafe (as it is now) is still going on Hermosa beach, but mainly blues these days I fear.
If you can make it to the Cicada Club for a night of pre-bop jazz and swing in Downtown L.A.'s spectacular Art Deco Oviatt Building, don't miss it!
In a similar vein, this themed night feat. Dean Mora's orchestra looks like a lot of fun; check out the promo video: http://www.theairraid.com
You might want to have a look at this calendar to see what's cookin' as well: http://www.campusfive.com/calendar/
Lastly though not strictly jazz, Jennifer Keith's Sextet is playing a month-long residency at The Sky Room in Long Beach, which is a lot of fun.
You could also check out the schedule at Don the Beachcombers. Their bookings are a bit all over the place (that's kind of reflective of the music scene in L.A.) but they often feature small combos on Thu/Fri/Sat nights; Carl Sonny Leyland Quartet, Dave Stuckey, Sweet Hollywaiians, etc.
Also, my friend hosts a great "Shanghai Noir" record party every Wednesday at General Lee's in Chinatown.

Reggae Sundays at Dons sounds like a plan Oli, cheers - the other swing stuff doesn't interest me as much, but i'll check out the listings toward the end of the month and see what's going down. Thanks
Make sure you pop into Sween's for a clip and a shave; tell him who sent you: http://www.sweeneytoddsbarbershopla.com
Ha, i'll be getting a trim before I head out mate, and my shaving requirements are minimal for a 42 year old!
The LA Weekly is a great (and free) resource for anything that's going on.
