Saphir renomat

Good morning Hive Mind,

Has anyone used this stuff?

http://www.herringshoes.co.uk/product-info.php?brandid=6&shoeid=9678

There's a pair of loafers I want to buy that have an unknown stain on them. They are cheap. If the stain comes out then I will have a pair shoes I have been after for quite some time. Wondering if it is worth the hassle/gamble?

Reno'mat gets killer reviews online. Was wondering if any you Ivyists transformed a pair of NOS american loafers with it?

Re: Saphir renomat

It's a mainstay of my shoe-care regime, works great on on most leathers and can be used for a gentler version of the 'weejun hack' to get the shiney finish off new weejuns.

My only tip would be to use a shoe cream rather than a wax based polish post-Renomat,
save a 'high' wax polish for the next time you give your shoes a clean.

Re: Saphir renomat

Great stuff. Good to know.

I bought some Saphir wax for my new tassel loafers last week. The smell is beautiful. And the high shine was great.

I sent you a PM, Acton.

Cheers.

Re: Saphir renomat

I've used it to good effect.  I recommend it.  The warning label is pretty scary though.  Must be caustic as heck.  Use in an open area as the fumes are intense.  ...unless you're into that kind of thing.  You know, huffing stuff.....

Anyway, I've been finishing up with the Venetian shoe cream.

Re: Saphir renomat

Not used the reno mat but do use the Renovateur to mousers the leather on my shoes, smells fantastic too.

They have a few products I would like to add to my polishing box at some point.

CB, were these a pair of loafers with a small mark on the toe vamp by any chance?

Yes.  The Renovateur and the Renomat go hand-in-hand.  Just order both together.

Re: Saphir renomat

Use the renomat very, very, sparingly - a few drops on the cloth will do - and resist the temptation to rub hard as (from my own experience) this can make a stain worse. As others have suggested, it is recommended to use a leather lotion rather than wax polish for the first few shines after the renomat treatment.

Cheers, AH. I have a good leather conditioner so that is no problem.

Re: Saphir renomat

On Acton's suggestion I bought some to see if the 'Weejun Hack lite' would take the shine down a notch on my Lorens. I've given it a try once so far and it seems to have had an effect. I might give it another go in a week or two.

Chief, re valet boxes, I spent ages searching for one. For some reason good vintage ones are hard to come by in the UK, and while there are always plenty of great midcentury US ones on Etsy from Kiwi and the like, they tend to cost an arm and a leg in shipping.

I eventually bought one of these Pediwear ones from eBay, and have been really pleased with it. It's a solidly constructed cherrywood box with substantial brass handles. It feels like it'll last a good few decades:

Thanks, SB. Currently using a cardboard box an old router was delivered in…

What colour are your Lorens? I might try that hack on my tan beef rolls.

Re: Saphir renomat

The Loake valet box is quite nice, its about £90 on ebay

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Loake-luxury-valet-box/dp/B005VNGRVM

but a bit of nosing around on t'bay can get you one for £50.

This lot usually have quite a few option if you want it 'empty'

Re: Saphir renomat

I wore these for about 10 hours yesterday. Not a pinch or a blister. And very comfortable all day. They were very close fitting all around the foot so fully expected them to hurt at some point. Especially in the heat. I even had sneakers in my bag just in case.

Just wanted to share delight! On the look out for more!

My black tassle Dexters fit very differently and require an insole to get the fit I want. They will be tested next weekend!
