All Rather Tasty, Eh ?

This July 6th is, as I, foggily, recall, 10 years of Talk Ivy. I could always check my diaries...

Anyway -

I am delighted with it all. A refinement of all the nonsense & drabness of online "Trad" and an influence which has spawned so much else.

Wot I luv...

Influence without responsibility. Make it happen, but make sure that others do all the work.  wink

Expect celebrations elsewhere on the net in a few months lauding ten years of their advertising sales...

But for now -

UP THE IVY !!!!

I shall celebrate with one of my lovely hand knitted ties and a made to measure Ivy suit, gingered up out of some lovely lightweight handwoven tweed wot I got done up Yorkshire way.

... Nothing that anybody else couldn't do, given an actual interest in clothes...

Yours Etc. -

  - Oh - And to make this valid as a thread - How will you celebrate ?

Because you really should, you know...

wink  x

I suggest you check your diaries. I doubt I'll be doing anything to celebrate but it's good to know.

Could I drink a double IPA? Yes, I could. I'll raise a glass in Talk Ivy's honor on July 6. I might even raise two! I'm likely to be donned in a pair of burgundy Birdwell's and a grungy old J. Crew t-shirt.

Re: All Rather Tasty, Eh ?

/\ haha nice drawring!  having a lovely time at the birthday party ...

on July 6, if it's sunny I will swim, if not I will stay in and read.

with the Fourth of July on a Monday, Wednesday the 6th is going to be a holiday for many.

the hot days, what to wear?  pima broadcloth loosely, lightweight tropical wool trousers, lightweight dress cotton cuffed khaki, unlined loafers and mocs, jeans on rainy or cloudy days;

canvas sneakers, cotton walk shorts, polo shirts, t-shirts, swim trunks.

got a nice mint but old cotton and linen Makers ssbd in yellow on today, old 501s, it's Friday afternoon, Vans sneakers ....

got to make my rounds and have some lunch, speaking of tasty.

I am strangely in the mood for a corned beef sandwich now.  Funny.

Re: All Rather Tasty, Eh ?

'tis a jazzy weekend here in Space City.

I'll make the main and side stage rounds dutifully and gladly this evening and tomorrow, imbibe at the beverage tent, eat bad food truck food, pine for my far-flung petunia.  (All music is free, by the way, at this great downtown event, a good dozen or more artists to see, between the main stage and the side stages.)

What to wear? Well, stone khakis and an ocbd for this evening as the temps are gonna drop and I'm on foot but I'll dress it down with my old dirty white canvas sneaks (Supergas).

Tomorrow, depending on temps, probably jeans or white jeans with one of my YR tees or a J. Crew polo, an old Lands End baseball cap, same old white sneakers.

A lot of sunscreen. And shades of course. Can't go walking around a jazz festival without some cool shades. Especially when you're a lonely guy. I think friends are coming to the rescue tomorrow, however, so all is not lost.

Sunday the fest is still gong on but it turns into kind of a family-friendly Stepfordsville kind of event on Sunday. So I'll either rest up inside and read and listen to music, or else hit the pool. Same Monday, probably.

Re: All Rather Tasty, Eh ?

We must strengthen ties between the heritage clothing and heritage transportation communities.  Could have a Talk Ivy charter F Unit pulling trains out of New York Central Station where every car is a bar car.  For the UK meet it would be a Class 37 pulling a  football special with all the windows smashed.

^ Now we're talking!

Although, as W.S.Gilbert suggested:

The idiot who, in railway carriages,
Scribbles on window-panes,
We only suffer
To ride on a buffer
In Parliamentary trains.

Re: All Rather Tasty, Eh ?

Talking about trains, I quite fancy a trip on the Orient Express. I've had a decade of the all-inclusive canteen experience, tots disco and red coat shows of an evening and its really worn all rather thin. And it all starts again in August! I really would just like a proper adult holiday for a change.

Anyway, how's Jim, hope your health is holding-up and you're still enjoying Manchester?

Vienna is a great city. The frontier against the Ottomans and Genghis Khan before them.

Never been myself, same with Salzburg. Always been too busy skiing. Innsbruck is nice though. Managed to get a day or two there.

Re: All Rather Tasty, Eh ?

Anyway, possibly moving more in the direction intended, Fitzgerald Clothiers and Hardy and Johnson jackets.

Fitz shirts are sadly missed. I see an American company now has a button down with a longer collar. It is also called Fitzgerald. Ivy style article refers.

H&J are still - thankfully - in business. Easy for Londoners to get to Putney for new jackets.

Hope Jim is keeping well too.
