Mercers Outback Khaki

Is my favorite ever oxford cloth.

It's a very subtle weave. The color looks far more pronounced on the web in small swatch than a full cut shirt contrasted by the two ply threading.

It's not British khaki. It's more of a muted taupe-grey; like an overcast day at Cannon Beach. More fog than sand.

Really truly positively hip.

I added a third button to the back collar.

I love this shirt.

I wonder how close this color is to the "Stone" offered by Brooks many moons ago.

I have a stone Makers but it rarely gets used. It's a nice colour but a bit too dull to work with chinos or flannels, unless there's a colourful tie in the mix.

Re: Mercers Outback Khaki

You guys sound like my lady with this skin tone stuff... I don't get it personally, there's not a color I wouldn't wear because of my "hue". Just throw a brown herringbone over the stone Makers and you're good to go, Dave! Heck, you could wear it military style with nothing but chinos and ptb's and it'd look dead cool. Any shade of brown or tan, beige, green to yellow... just do it!

Let's all pitch in and help sponsor a man in need of a tan. For a small contribution of five dollars a month, you can send Dave to California and provide an invaluable gift of confidence to a man with an unworn Makers. Your small token of generosity can change one man's life. Please donate to this worthy cause today.

We've actually got a heatwave over here, much to everyone's surprise, although I don't know how long it will last. I have to avoid the sun for medical reasons anyway so I'll be staying pale. Fortunately I have plenty of blue and other colour shirts so it's not a problem really.

Re: Mercers Outback Khaki

/\  September 1981 saw a major restocking of the old Ivy for me, had beaten up the stuff from 1978 by then, so bought a new stack of oxford cloths, including an outback tan-colored flap pocket bd, from Japes ....

remember wondering whether that particular shirt had been a smart purchase, don't think I'd actually ever had that color before ... determined to get some wear out of it and after a while, just worn with a pair of old blue jeans, faded blue Sperry canvas deck shoes, and a heathery brown BB lambswool v-neck from England, it became one of my top two .......

wore that thing for the next 20+ years before the collar finally started to fray

that color is easy to wear as a sport shirt in my opinion

Agreed Stan, particularly with "natural" colored Press shaggy or any oatmeal colored shetland, faded jeans and Quoddys.

We'll probably be down south again next winter... I miss everything about Miami, including hanging out with you! I'll let you know when we lay something down concrete.

I like the grey.  I think it's worth having a oxford in that color.  I might even go something close to pinpoint.
