This very evening...  I bought one...  Not Reyn Spooner...  RJC (anyone?)...  Utterly tasteless item...

Never for a second begun to understand the appeal. Where's the reference point? Aren't they standard top geezer wear? Not sure I value humour or whimsy in clothing.

They're pretty indefensible in many ways, certainly.  Reyn Spooner are on offer at Chiltern Street at £140 a time.  This was fifteen quid - probably not well spent but, well, I look upon something like this as calculated to annoy - and the darker, more perverse side of me relishes that.  This particular example has a Pearl Harbour theme...

I saw them on the rail at JS yesterday. A quick glance then I averted my eyes and sought visual solace in some natural shoulder tailoring.

Re: The Official Talk Ivy Hawaiian Shirt Thread

If anyone imagines I would pay £140 for a Reyn Spooner shirt - the answer is blindingly obvious.  It would have to have a dusky maiden wrapped up in it.  But £15 for something actually made (or so it says) on that island - okay.

If you’re going to wear a Hawaiian shirt then Reyn Spooner is the one to wear.

Re: The Official Talk Ivy Hawaiian Shirt Thread

RJC seem to have a fair pedigree.

What about these?

Not my cup of tea but they might fit the bill for some on here

Probably in the back garden, Robbie, on a hot day.

Shame-faced, I changed my mind.  I had a beatific vision of our Gibson looking over my shoulder and shaking his head.  The seller was not best pleased with my request to cancel the order and I can't say I blame him.
That'll teach me.

Re: The Official Talk Ivy Hawaiian Shirt Thread

I said - If you’re going to wear a Hawaiian shirt then Reyn Spooner is the one to wear.

AFS said - Why?

I was tempted to reply‘because they are’ but really ‘because rhey were’ would be more apt. Either way it deserves more explanation and I have been thinking about this.

I have 3 or 4 Reyn Spooners from a few years back. They are in traditional Hawaiian designs which are not dissimilar to Batik. They are reverse print cloth and the colours are relatively muted. The cut is roomy and they have a button down collar, they look okay under a jacket. As has been said before they are durable and are true wash n wear items.

Their recent offerings are often more garish ‘in yer face ‘and feature cartoon characters, Godzilla etc. Some of them are the dreaded slim cut fit and generally to be avoided.

I like wearing Reyns with chinos, light colour jeans and plain shorts. Along with polos and short sleeve madras shirts they are my summer staples.

Re: The Official Talk Ivy Hawaiian Shirt Thread

That's good enough for me.  But I think I'll pass.  Stick to Madras, which is what I'm wearing today: 'Hunt Club'.
