Re: The wider 50s/ The Korean War Chino

Tommy, if you're going to knock around in them I would be tempted to go for the Stan Rays. My pair I had tapered in and eventually passed on to a mate for reasons I forget, but they had a good rise and are well made.

^ +1 on what T said, if its your first foray into the wider classic military chinos go with the Stan Rays.

The Ricksons are good strides but save a few quid and go with the Stan Rays,
if you like the style  then go a bit more exotic/expensive next time.

Let's LIONELERIZE Tommy...LET'S L-I-O-N-E-L-E-R-I-Z-E....

Now obviously...I'm at my most content in 11" minimum he he...but you could do far worse than Silverman's just to test the water...

I sent off for some Stan Rays once upon a time but they went straight back...with a note I'll add...where quite frankly Sir...I expressed my dissatisfaction....my dissatisfaction most foul... I even sent a mixtape of a freestyle rap in Urdu to hammer my dissatisfation home... but I digress...

Now I've had a few of these and you really can't complain for 20 notes....well you could...but that would make you a nasteee man.... which I'm sure you ain't blud...

Good call Capt'n, I forget about Silvermans and they are literally at the end of my road - mainly because I only use them for motorcycle stuff.

What is the weight on these like Andy?

Re: The wider 50s/ The Korean War Chino

Ooh gawd... mediumishy I guess T.... but they're a wonderful high rise and obviously may be in need of a taper for most...if you're not a flapperizer like wot eye is....

Narrower at the ankle are the x over belt jobbies n all...

Maybe a bit to out of order for here but again...cracking strides...wouldn't want be caught with The Earta Kitts in 'em mind...take about a day to put on...and 3 days to get off ha ha....

Yes....ok ok... I just shat myself for the record...but we've ALL MOVED ON... ALRIGHT?!?!?

Was down Brick Lane on a whim yesterday.. Levisons still have a few deadstock 50s pants fyi

Re: The wider 50s/ The Korean War Chino

Cheers lads.

I'm tempted to look up the Silverman's Capn', but I'm not such a flapping swingster (not sure if that sounds like an insult or a complement...) as yerself. The fact they are advertised as being suitable for 40s nights makes me wonder if they're gonna me wider at the hem than I want, sure they could be tapered in but that only helps so much?

Might finally use this as an excuse to buy somethin from American Classics, since they seem to be the only place that does em in store?

Unless you're buying Buzz's officer pinks or the 1942 edition of the chinos you're going to be in trouble if you want taper them in the legs as they cannot be altered by seamtress or tailor. I ended up giving my 36" ones to the brother in law and now I am 36" they would have come in handy!

My '60s twist twill chinos have 9" bottoms. This is probably from sometime last year by the chubiness of yours drooly (I've slimmed back down to a 32) but they should give you an idea of the cut; I think they're folded inside because I hadn't finished the hems yet: https://scontent.fsnc1-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/13245229_10153438710412714_6454433128396229527_n.jpg?oh=eb7af83641c8747680bafe6ea6076f8b&oe=589A2389

Yeah, not into the pockets on those - think I would go for the classic chino. Hem opening is only 8.5"

Re: The wider 50s/ The Korean War Chino

Seems El Capitan didn't rate them, and when I was picking them up cheap from the US I thought they were a decent made trouser for the money, I think the still are even at the £60 price mark.

They are not to be rated against McCoys, Bills et al, probably similar to what JS offers (I don't own any of these but look similar in pictures).

I wasn't happy with the Rays.  Material was too thin for my liking.  Just felt sort of cheap to me.

They are $40 trousers which end up costing £60 in the UK.

Not bad but just not great.

Re: The wider 50s/ The Korean War Chino

Yep - didn't rate them quality wise tbh at the time either...rise wasn't good enough...and not voluminous enough generally to boot... then again.. for the moolah I guess they weren't too bad... think Stylecreep do em now so will take a peekie next time I'm visiting Sammy Boy there...probably next couple of weeks..

I'd poisonally just want what I like fit wise regardless of the cost (well to a degree obviously...)... Am more than content with Silvermans as El Cheapo...and TRM as luxury upon undercarriage...

Dunno About Sundays for Crazyhead meanwhile Tommy...am due a visit there meself as it looks most excellent an emporium...and with Cenci in the vicinity too!
