Rome suggestions

Going to be in Rome for a few days at the end of the month.

Sadly won't have enough time for any bespoke, and shopping time all round will be at a premium (i.e. manly for the benefit of Mrs TJ) as will have the kids in tow doing the touristy/cultural stuff.

But would be grateful for any suggestions for central places I might pop into in a free moment.  So far I have Eddy Monetti (ties) and Saddlers Union (leather) on my list.  Any other thoughts on hidden sartorial gems would be much appreciated...

Re: Rome suggestions

As they say in Italy: Rome a great city to visit, a terrible place to live, as opposed to Milan which is a great city to live, but terrible to visit.

I generally only pass through Rome, but this time of year can be quite pleasant in that part of the world, a golden autumn if you get blue sky days.

Andrews Ties - a superb source for great quality, reasonably priced and tasteful silk ties, especially knitted ones. Not much there for the Van Buck fan though!

Re: Rome suggestions

I actually prefer the provincial, more rustic Italian experience. You get these wonderful pre-dinner bars and then first rate local in-places to eat which have a real vibe to them. It feels authentic and you don't have to avoid the local cod-Italian restaurant run by Turks or too many tourists looking for the same thing that you are looking for.

I do like my business trips to Italy, they are like mini-breaks and I always feel like I am on holiday. A shame the situation there is so messed-up and problematic when compared with northern Europe. All things being equal, the climate and vibe in places like Tuscany is really most splendid.

Andrew's Ties? I remember then here as a sort-of-slightly-better-than-Tie-Rack mass market thing, priced accordingly?

Re: Rome suggestions

It is worth a visit to Battistoni a high end men's shop.
Also, one of the most beautiful stores you'll find.

Was there two years ago. Their  RTW cut  was  not to my taste-
I like a very natural shoulder. Great accessories.
