Re: Customs Charges: Get It Off Your Chest

I once bought an old shirt the price of which was converted to 15.01GBP, so I had to pay all the charges due to being over the limit. A disgrace.

Re: Customs Charges: Get It Off Your Chest

The 15 pound threshold means what -- anything valued over 15 pounds is subject to more/higher fees?

15 pounds is approximately $18 US right now.

Next time I send anything to the UK I'm going to value it at US $7.50 and call it "used clothing for puppet-making" or something

Re: Customs Charges: Get It Off Your Chest

I buy quite regularly from Creation watches in Singapore and they mark the watches as 'measuring equipment ' and thus avoid import duty .... now that I've opened my mouth I expect some HMRC snoop to shut this particular loophole down ... 😕

Like when Homer fraudulently claimed on his insurance for Dimoxinil- to stop his brain freezing. Instead of for the hair restoration lotion!

Re: Customs Charges: Get It Off Your Chest

I just bought a jacket off eBay and it's been sent via Global Shipping Programme.
It says I shouldn't have to pay and handling or tax my end. I shall wait and see.

Re: Customs Charges: Get It Off Your Chest

Just got a £21 fee on those green cords, what gets my goat is why sellers think the HMRC are going to pursue them for a few £s? It's peanuts in the scheme of things and find sellers who say don't ask to be a little petty - these agaencies are after the big bucks, not small time sellers. Of course the eBay global shitting prog has taken away some of those freedoms.

Re: Customs Charges: Get It Off Your Chest

To be fair - I  think some of them confuse the value for customs purposes with the insured value. I have also noticed that many US sellers now seem either unwilling or incapable of operating outside of the GPS. I suspect many have felt the pinch since the pound nosedived against the dollar .... business is now reliant solely upon the die hards who have to get their American clothing fix .... 😊

To be fair to the Yankie Doodles...I find they do actually ask if you want to proceed with the order now once bought... what with the additional 27 other costs to come into consideration....the smug feckers...

As if by magic ... No sooner had I posted on here - when I received a £28 ransom note from those good people* at Parcel force ... being the solid citizen that I am - I took it on the chin - knowing that my import duty/ VAT and nosebleed handling fee is somehow saving the indigenous plaid hunting jacket industry  ... 😕

Yes Acton - travelling with a couple of Union Brothers via the train and then hooking up with comrades from Worcester Trades Council and the SP. Four coaches going from Worcestershire (which is impressive !) - but we elected to eschew the experience of getting delayed on the coach by the peelers  ( which is what normally happens on such demos) and being the San Miguel Socialists we are, let the train take the strain.... smile Also gives us the opportunity to do some window shopping at American Classics ! If you are about afterwards perhaps we could all hook up  for beer? *

*edited to add. That's you and Thee Captain  and NOT four coach loads of lefties from darkest Worcestershire  !!!

Order arrived from the US a week or 2 ago with no customs charge. Then today I get a letter from FedEx telling me I owe them 26 quid. What madness is this?
